Character Setting

Edit

Tarble is a character who appears in the anime movie "Dragon Ball: Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!", which was first shown at the Jump Super Anime Tour 2008 event. He is a Saiyan and the younger brother of Vegeta, making him part of the royal Saiyan family. Tarble was created with the approval of Dragon Ball's original creator, Akira Toriyama, though he does not appear in the main manga. He is known for his polite personality, small size, and lack of fighting skill compared to other Saiyans. Tarble comes to Earth seeking help from Vegeta and the other fighters when two strong enemies, remnants of Freeza's army, pursue him. He is married to a unique alien woman named Gure, and his story connects with several main Dragon Ball characters.

Tarble looks similar to his brother Vegeta, but he is even smaller and has a slim build.

He is much shorter than Vegeta, who stands at 164 cm, so Tarble is quite tiny for a Saiyan.

Tarble's front hair hangs down a little, which is a small difference from Vegeta.

He wears Saiyan armor similar to what Vegeta wore early on, including an emerald-green scouter.

His tail is left hanging loose, not wrapped around his waist like some other Saiyan characters.

Tarble is gentle, polite, and speaks very formally—even to people who have low fighting power.

He often says "super" when describing things, giving his speech a slightly unique feel.

Tarble calls himself "boku" and refers to Vegeta as "brother" or "nii-san".

Unlike most Saiyans, he is not aggressive and does not like fighting much.

Tarble is Vegeta's younger brother and also the son of King Vegeta, making him a Saiyan prince.

Before Planet Vegeta was destroyed by Freeza, King Vegeta sent Tarble to a far-off planet because Tarble was not a fighting type.

Unlike other Saiyans, his power was considered too low for battle.

While Vegeta never showed much interest in Tarble when they were young, Tarble managed to survive the destruction of the Saiyans and lived on another planet, where he got married.

Tarble is stronger than many people, but among Saiyans, he is still considered weak.

He was able to escape from enemies as strong as Abo and Kado, who are said to be as powerful as Freeza with a power level of at least 530,000.

Z fighters like Piccolo, Son Gohan, Jinzouningen 18-gou, Kuririn, Muten Roushi, and Trunks sensed his notable fighting power when he arrived on Earth.

In games, Tarble is often given skills similar to Vegeta, like the Galick Gun.

  • Vegeta: Tarble is Vegeta's little brother. He calls Vegeta "brother" and respects him. Vegeta, however, does not show much interest in Tarble's life.
  • Gure: Tarble is married to Gure, who has an unusual appearance very different from Saiyans or humans.
  • Trunks: Trunks is Tarble's nephew.
  • Other Z Fighters: Tarble politely interacts with the other Dragon Ball heroes and asks for their help.

"Thank goodness! Brother!"

Arrival and Help Request

Tarble is chased by Abo and Kado, two former followers of Freeza who have become very strong.

Feeling he cannot defeat them alone, Tarble escapes and learns on Namek that Vegeta and friends (actually Goku) defeated Freeza.

Tarble quickly locates Vegeta and the others on Earth, arriving during a party held by Mr. Satan.

He asks Vegeta and the fighters to help him deal with the enemies.

Learning About Earth's Heroes

Tarble warns the group that Abo and Kado are very powerful, as strong as Freeza now.

He is shocked to find out that the Earth fighters are even stronger today.

He is amazed and surprised by the huge power difference between himself and the Z warriors.

After the trouble is settled, Tarble, Gure, and the reformed Abo and Kado join the party and have a meal together.

Gure is surprised to see how much Saiyans and their friends eat, suggesting Tarble might not have the common Saiyan big appetite.

Departure and Other References

After the party, Tarble and Gure return to their home planet and do not appear in later stories.

In the 2013 movie "Battle of Gods," Bulma reminds Vegeta that he has a polite little brother, referring to Tarble during a conversation about pure-blooded Saiyans.

Vegeta admits he doesn't know on which planet Tarble is living now.

In "Dragon Ball Super: Broly," there is a scene during a flashback where a young Nappa mentions that Vegeta has a little brother, but Vegeta shows little interest.

Video Game Appearances

Tarble first appears in "Raging Blast 2" for PS3/Xbox360.

His fighting style is similar to early Vegeta, with basic energy attacks and unique moves like crashing an enemy with his round spaceship.

He is also included in "Dragon Ball Heroes," where his "Support Request" ability makes him very strong, as he cannot be stunned and boosts his teammates’ power every time he is attacked.

Tarble became popular in these games, ranking second in a card voting poll.

Even though newer cards and abilities have made him less used, he was known for breaking the game balance for a while.

He also joins in the 3DS game "Ultimate Mission X," where he can easily be recruited early in the story and help defeat powerful enemies.

  • Even though Tarble’s father and brother's names follow a special naming rule, Tarble’s own name is not fully explained.
  • Tarble's story has some mysteries because Vegeta never paid much attention to him when they were young, and not much about his background is deeply known.
  • Tarble is considered an "official" character, but his return or role in the main timeline is unclear, as later anime and manga do not always mention him.
