Character Setting

Edit

Chigusa Hitachi is a 16-year-old human adventurer from the Far East and a member of the Takemikazuchi Familia in the series Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?.

She later achieves Level 2 and is known by the alias “Twin-Winged Girl.”

Chigusa is a shy, introverted girl who usually hides her eyes behind her bangs.

Despite her demeanor, she possesses combat ability second only to Ōka Kashima and Mikoto Yamato within the Takemikazuchi Familia.

She specializes in archery and is even more skilled with the bow than Mikoto, who is otherwise her equal as an all-rounder.

Her alias “Twin-Winged Girl” reflects both her combat potential and her emotional bond with her comrades.

Chigusa is voiced by Yuka Iguchi in the anime adaptation.

Within the story, she begins as a Level 1 adventurer but levels up to Level 2 after the conflict with the Ishtar Familia.

She comes from the Far East and grew up alongside Ōka Kashima, Mikoto Yamato, and Haruhime Sanjouno, all of whom are her childhood friends.

Haruhime later joins the Hestia Familia, but their connection remains an important emotional anchor for Chigusa.

Chigusa is extremely shy and has strong social anxiety, especially around people outside her small circle of childhood friends.

She often lets her bangs cover her eyes, giving her a withdrawn, timid appearance.

She harbors romantic feelings for Ōka Kashima.

The only person she can speak to naturally besides her childhood friends is Mikoto Yamato, with whom she openly discusses their respective crushes.

Chigusa is insecure about her small bust and appears to be somewhat self-conscious about her physical appearance.

Despite this, she works hard as an adventurer and quietly supports her allies from the rear with precise archery.

Because she lost her parents at a young age, Chigusa grew up as an orphan.

Takemikazuchi, who later becomes a main deity in Orario, raised her like a child of his own, deeply shaping her values and combat style.

She and Takemikazuchi share a bond that resembles that of parent and child rather than simply god and follower.

As a result, she puts great effort into living up to his teachings and the reputation of her war-god patron.

Chigusa is categorized as an all-rounder adventurer, similar to Mikoto Yamato.

Even so, her bow skills stand out as exceptional and surpass Mikoto’s archery.

Raised by a war god, she prides herself on martial skills that do not rely solely on raw status numbers.

Her training emphasizes technique, discipline, and practical combat know-how.

After the Xenos arc, Chigusa adopts a large bow crafted by Welf Crozzo called Black Rabbit-Horse as her main weapon.

This shift in equipment allows her to further enhance her archery and become a more impactful long-range combatant.

In party combat, she typically fights from the rear line, covering allies, suppressing enemies, and striking key targets with precise shots.

Her calm aim, even under pressure, contrasts with her timid personality in normal social situations.

Middle Floors Incident (Volume 5)

In Volume 5 of the main story, Chigusa joins the other members of the Takemikazuchi Familia on an expedition to the middle floors of the dungeon.

During this venture, she suffers serious injuries, forcing the party to retreat.

While withdrawing, they happen upon Bell Cranel and his party.

To secure a path for their escape, Ōka is compelled to unleash a Pass Parade, deliberately luring monsters toward Bell’s group.

Chigusa later feels deep guilt for the danger Bell and his companions were placed in because of her injury.

Driven by this remorse, she joins the rescue party alongside Ōka and Mikoto to help save Bell’s group and personally apologizes to them upon their reunion.

Expedition and Moss Huge Incident (Volume 12)

In Volume 12, Chigusa and Ōka take part in the faction alliance and accompany the Hestia Familia on their expedition.

During the lower floors operation, they encounter a strengthened variant of the monster Moss Huge.

Chigusa is hit by one of the creature’s seeds and becomes parasitized by a Mistletoe-like growth, placing her life in serious danger.

Her body is effectively being used as a host, and her allies are unable to free her by conventional means.

Bell ultimately arrives and unleashes his special technique Argo Vesta, obliterating the strengthened Moss Huge.

With the monster’s destruction, the parasitic Mistletoe is also eradicated, freeing Chigusa and allowing her to recover.

Lyu Lion Pursuit (Volume 13)

In Volume 13, a group from Rivira organizes a punitive expedition to hunt down the adventurer known as Gale Wind, Lyu Lion.

Responding to Bell’s desire to uncover the truth about Lyu’s situation, Chigusa joins him and his allies on this mission.

Her role during this arc is to support Bell’s group as they investigate the events surrounding Lyu.

Even in such tense circumstances, Chigusa continues to act as a quiet but reliable rear guard.

Freya’s Charm and Memory Alteration (Volume 17)

In Volume 17, Freya blankets Orario in her Charm, rewriting the memories and perceptions of its inhabitants regarding Bell Cranel.

Under this distortion, Chigusa’s memories are altered, and she mistakenly accepts the narrative that Bell belongs to the Freya Familia.

When she later encounters Bell—who cannot accept being treated as a member of the Freya Familia—he is agitated and grabs her by the shoulders.

Startled and overwhelmed by the conflicting feelings and confusion, Chigusa is frightened and brought to tears.

Eventually, Hestia activates False Reality: Holy Flame Sanctuary, breaking Freya’s Charm and shattering the mental manipulation.

Once freed, Chigusa regains her true memories and joins Takemikazuchi, Ōka, and the others in rushing to Bell’s aid.

War Game: Faction War (Volume 18)

In Volume 18, Chigusa participates in the large-scale Faction War.

She is assigned to protect Liliruca Arde, who commands the faction alliance forces.

When the war game begins, it is revealed that the Freya Familia has deployed its full forces on the western side of the Orza City Ruins.

Following Liliruca’s instructions, Chigusa moves to regroup with Ōka and the others.

During the battle, the central forces led by Tsubaki Collbrande are defeated when she is cut down by Hegni.

After this collapse, Daphne Lauros, in charge of the right-wing forces, orders Chigusa and the others to confront Hegni and effectively be “cut down” by him to wear him out.

Chigusa, alongside Bors, Ōka, and other allies, is eventually felled by Hegni and thus eliminated from the war game.

However, by forcing Hegni to overuse his cursed weapon Victim Abyss, they significantly drain his stamina.

This attrition becomes crucial when Ryuu Lion enters the fray later.

Thanks in part to the exhaustion inflicted by Chigusa and the others, Ryuu is able to defeat Hegni.

Base Status (Post Level-Up)

Race: Human

Age: 16

Familia: Takemikazuchi Familia

Level: 2

Strength: I23

Endurance: I16

Dexterity: I36

Agility: I32

Magic: I0

These values reflect her growth after the conflict with the Ishtar Familia, at which point she attains Level 2.

While her raw numbers are not overwhelming, her precise technique and battlefield awareness make her much more dangerous than her stats alone suggest.

Development Ability

Abnormal Resistance

Chigusa possesses the Development Ability Abnormal Resistance, which allows her to resist and mitigate status ailments.

Though simple in concept, this ability is considered nearly essential for deep dungeon exploration, where many monsters employ poison, curses, and other debilitating effects.

Her experience with parasitic effects during the Moss Huge incident later underscores how important such protection can be.

Combined with her cautious nature and rear-guard role, this makes her particularly suited for sustained dungeon expeditions.

Takemikazuchi

Takemikazuchi raised Chigusa from childhood after she was orphaned.

Their relationship is more akin to that of a protective father and daughter than a distant god and follower.

He taught her martial skills and discipline, emphasizing technique over mere numerical status.

Chigusa strives to make him proud and to honor the training and kindness he gave her.

Ōka Kashima

Ōka is a fellow member of the Takemikazuchi Familia and one of Chigusa’s closest childhood friends.

Chigusa secretly has romantic feelings for him, even though she rarely expresses them openly.

Ōka’s decision to initiate the Pass Parade in Volume 5 is partially driven by the urgency of saving Chigusa’s life.

Chigusa, feeling responsible for the trouble caused to Bell, is deeply shaken but also grateful for how far Ōka will go to protect her.

Mikoto Yamato

Mikoto is Chigusa’s friend, comrade, and fellow all-rounder.

Chigusa can talk most naturally with Mikoto, to the point where they candidly discuss their respective crushes.

Mikoto’s reassignment to the Hestia Familia (on a temporary basis) changes their day-to-day interactions but not their emotional closeness.

Their trust in each other is a stable source of comfort for the shy Chigusa.

Haruhime Sanjouno

Haruhime is another childhood friend from the Far East and is extremely dear to Chigusa.

Although Haruhime later becomes a member of the Hestia Familia, their shared past keeps them emotionally connected.

Chigusa worries about Haruhime’s safety and future and is happy whenever she can fight alongside her again during joint operations.

Their bond reinforces Chigusa’s determination to grow stronger.

Bell Cranel and the Hestia Familia

Chigusa first becomes deeply involved with Bell when the Pass Parade incident puts his party in mortal danger.

Her guilt drives her to join the rescue mission and later to support Bell’s group on more than one occasion.

During the expedition and the Moss Huge crisis, her life is saved directly by Bell’s Argo Vesta.

This experience adds a layer of gratitude and respect to her view of Bell.

She also interacts with Liliruca Arde during the Faction War, serving as her bodyguard.

Through these alliances, Chigusa gradually becomes more open to people outside her original small circle.

Ottar (Mobile Game Continuity)

In the mobile game Memoria Freese, Chigusa appears more frequently and, interestingly, often interacts with Ottar, the captain of the Freya Familia.

Despite how intimidating Ottar is, Chigusa manages to persuade him to abandon an independent action during the first-anniversary Grand Day event—an impressive, if understated, feat.

Ottar, in turn, quietly helps Chigusa when she is in danger, sometimes even disguising himself to play along in schemes involving Ōka.

Because both are reserved and not prone to showing off, their personalities surprisingly mesh well.

Chigusa’s timid look, with her eyes hidden behind her bangs, contrasts sharply with her deadly accuracy as an archer.

This gap between appearance and ability is one of the charming points of her character.

She is notably more skilled with a bow than Mikoto Yamato, who is otherwise considered a highly competent all-rounder.

This makes Chigusa one of the strongest ranged attackers among the Takemikazuchi Familia members.

Her Development Ability Abnormal Resistance is particularly valuable in the deeper dungeon layers.

This, combined with her bow, makes her ideal for drawn-out battles where avoiding status ailments is critical.

In the anime adaptation of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, her voice actress Yuka Iguchi also performs the opening theme songs up through the third season.

This creates a subtle meta connection between Chigusa’s character and the broader atmosphere of the series.
