Character Setting

Edit

Revis is a red‑haired female creature and major antagonist from the series “Sword Oratoria: Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side,” a hybrid of human and monster created as a special “creature” to guard and converse with the Corrupted Spirit in the depths beneath Orario’s Dungeon.

Revis is introduced in the second volume of the side story as a mysterious red‑haired woman operating in the Dungeon beneath Orario.

Though she appears human, she is actually a mixed being of human and monster known as a “creature,” possessing a monster‑like magic stone core.

She functions as the Corrupted Spirit’s enforcer and jailer, obsessively targeting Ais Wallenstein, whom she calls “Aria.”

Over time she becomes one of the most dangerous enemies of the Loki Familia, repeatedly clashing with them in and around the artificial labyrinth Knossos.

As a creature, Revis can absorb magic stones from other monsters or creatures to strengthen herself.

Her power eventually grows to the point where her raw status is said to rival or surpass even Ottar, depending on how much of his strength is being compared.

She is also a skillful tamer who can control monsters such as the man‑eating flowers known as Violas.

Despite this, she initially lacks detailed knowledge of famous adventurers and is unfamiliar with the full composition of the upper ranks of the Loki Familia.

Her fixation on “Aria” hints at a connection to Ais’s unknown past.

She operates in cooperation with remnants of the supposedly destroyed “Evilus” faction and plays a central role in their plots in Knossos.

Her true nature is later revealed: “Revis” is not a single person, but a title given to multiple artificial creatures created from fragments of the soul of a long‑dead adventurer, Levinas Darlda.

The red‑haired Revis who battles Ais is the “sixth Revis,” and a final “seventh Revis” later appears using the body of Dionysus Familia adventurer Aura.

First Appearance and the Stolen Green Gem

Revis first appears after being dispatched by Fels to recover a green magic gem known as the “Fetal Gem.”

This gem had been secretly taken by the level 4 adventurer Hashana Dollia, who was moving it under a covert request.

She meets Hashana in Rivira, the town built within the Dungeon.

Staying together at Willy’s inn, she seduces him and, in the middle of their intimate moment, suddenly snaps his neck, killing him instantly.

However, Hashana had already entrusted the Fetal Gem to Lulune Louie of the Hermes Familia.

Enraged at failing to recover the gem directly, Revis crushes Hashana’s head and peels off his facial skin, wearing it as a disguise.

She then unleashes a Viola assault on Rivira, using the man‑eating flowers to attack the town.

During the chaos she approaches Lulune to take back the Fetal Gem and attempts to kill Lefiya Viridis, who happens to be with her.

Ais Wallenstein arrives in time to thwart the attempted killing, and Revis engages Ais in combat for the first time.

To Ais’s shock, Revis calls her “Aria,” clearly recognizing something about Ais that others do not.

During the battle, the hatched Fetal Gem fuses with one of the Violas, creating an incomplete “Demi‑Spirit,” a malformed fragment of the Corrupted Spirit.

Even so, Revis overwhelms Ais, who is at level 5 at this point.

Before she can finish things, Finn Deimne and Riveria Ljos Alf intervene.

Revis finds herself at a disadvantage against Finn and decides to retreat, leaving Ais and the others alive but shaken.

Confrontation at the Pantry and Power‑Up

Later, Revis appears again on the 24th floor at the Dungeon’s “Pantry,” a large monster‑nest that serves as a food storehouse.

This time Ais has already advanced to level 6 and dominates the fight, pressing Revis hard.

Realizing she needs more power, Revis chooses a ruthless method to grow stronger.

She kills fellow creature Olivas Act by ripping the magic stone from his chest and absorbing it, consuming his life and power for herself.

As the Pantry begins to collapse, Ais and her companions are forced to withdraw from the area.

Before they leave, Revis tells Ais to go to the 59th floor, hinting that Ais’s long‑sought answers lie there.

Revis then disappears into the depths to continue consuming magic stones and increasing her strength.

Her goal is to better serve the Corrupted Spirit’s will and to prepare for future clashes with Ais and the Loki Familia.

First Assault on Knossos and Wounding Finn

After feeding on scores of monsters and magic stones, Revis’s abilities increase dramatically.

When the Loki Familia first invades the artificial labyrinth Knossos, she makes her move.

During this assault, she appears in front of Finn and the separated units of the Loki Familia.

Recognizing Finn as the key commander and “brain” of the Familia, she targets him specifically.

In the ensuing battle she grievously wounds Finn, leaving him close to death.

With Finn incapacitated and command thrown into chaos, the Loki Familia falls into serious disarray within Knossos.

Even so, various factors, including interference by Ain and rushed countermeasures, prevent Revis and her allies from completely destroying the Loki Familia at that time.

Finn, however, comes to view Revis as the most dangerous individual enemy they face and begins to formulate detailed counter‑strategies focused on her.

Final Battle in Knossos and Death

During the final battle against the Evilus remnants and the Corrupted Spirit in Knossos, Revis again stands in Ais’s path.

By this point, Ais has undergone intense special training under Ottar, significantly increasing her combat power.

Revis further augments herself by integrating part of the Demi‑Spirit’s green flesh into her body.

However, the enhanced Ais gradually pushes her back, winning the upper hand in their duel.

Obsessed with strength and battle, Revis exults when Ais begins to lose control and is drawn toward the “Black Will,” a force that drives Ais into a wild, berserker state.

As Ais verges on becoming the “War Princess of Calamity,” a destructive avatar of the Black Will, Revis is delighted by the prospect of crossing blades with a completely unleashed Ais.

At this critical moment, the Dungeon echoes with the sound of a massive bell.

This is the “Great Bell,” an effect of Bell Cranel’s skill “Argonaut,” activated by the Hestia Familia elsewhere in Knossos.

The sound snaps Ais back to her senses, pulling her away from the Black Will’s corruption.

Her “black storm” of wrath transforms into a “white wind,” a calm yet overwhelming power.

Ais then gathers her full strength and unleashes her technique “White Wind, Blow” (Tempest), a decisive, concentrated strike.

The attack cleaves Revis’s magic stone core in two, fatally wounding her.

As her existence unravels, Revis cries out “Aria” one last time.

Her body and magic stone disintegrate, and she vanishes, leaving her full motives and inner feelings still largely shrouded in mystery.

Personality and Behavior

Revis is aloof, weary, and deeply nihilistic.

She claims to find everything in the world dull and worthless, acting more out of habit and obligation than passion.

Her one true spark of excitement is battle, especially her clashes with Ais Wallenstein.

She admits that fighting Ais is “fun” and that she became engrossed in crossing swords with her.

She is fiercely devoted to fulfilling the Corrupted Spirit’s commands, particularly the order to secure “Aria.”

This obsession fuels her repeated confrontations with Ais and overrides any regard for her own survival.

Despite her cooperation with Evilus remnants, she is not shown to be ideologically loyal to them.

Her primary loyalty is to the Corrupted Spirit and the role she was created to play.

Revis is also emotionally detached from other creatures like Olivas Act, whom she kills without hesitation for power.

This cold pragmatism emphasizes how far she stands from normal human morality.

Combat Capabilities

Revis is an extremely high‑level combatant, widely regarded as one of the most dangerous foes active in the Dungeon during the Knossos incident.

At her introduction, she instantly kills level 4 adventurer Hashana Dollia, catching him off guard.

She then goes on to overpower level 5 Ais in direct combat, even with Ais receiving support from Lefiya Viridis.

Later, after absorbing vast numbers of magic stones and fellow creature Olivas’s core, she becomes even stronger.

By the time of Sword Oratoria volume 11, Ais remarks that Revis’s raw status, taken purely as numbers, is above “the current Ottar” as she perceives him.

It is unclear whether this refers to Ottar’s full power or to the restrained strength he uses while training Ais.

Revis also proves capable of defeating or maiming powerful leaders such as Finn Deimne, dealing him severe injuries in Knossos.

Finn himself acknowledges her as the enemy he most needs to fear and plan against.

Her abilities include high speed, monstrous durability, and tremendous physical strength.

She also shows advanced swordsmanship and close‑quarters combat skills, matching or surpassing top‑class adventurers in technique.

Creature Nature and Magic Stone Absorption

As a creature, Revis possesses a magic stone core similar to that of a Dungeon monster.

This core serves as her life source; destroying it results in her death.

She can absorb other magic stones—either from monsters or from other creatures—to augment her power.

This process increases her status and can push her beyond the normal limits of a human adventurer.

When she kills Olivas Act and consumes his magic stone, her power spikes dramatically.

Later, she integrates parts of the Demi‑Spirit’s flesh, altering herself further and tying her even more closely to the Corrupted Spirit.

This power growth comes with drawbacks: she becomes increasingly inhuman and more tightly bound to the Corrupted Spirit’s will.

Her final form is a culmination of this monstrous evolution, making her both terrifying and unstable.

Tamer Skills

Revis is also a skilled “Tamer,” able to command and manipulate certain monsters.

She notably uses Violas—man‑eating plant monsters—to attack Rivira and sow chaos.

Her control over these creatures is precise enough to coordinate an assault on a fortified town within the Dungeon.

This blend of direct combat prowess and monster control makes her a versatile and unpredictable threat.

Obsession with “Aria”

From their first encounter, Revis addresses Ais Wallenstein as “Aria.”

This name is tied to Ais’s mysterious mother and Ais’s unknown childhood in the upper floors of the Dungeon.

Revis’s relentless insistence on capturing “Aria” reflects the Corrupted Spirit’s orders.

To Revis, Ais is both a target and a fascination—a living key to memories and purposes dating back centuries.

Her fixation is not merely strategic but almost emotional: Ais is the only person who truly ignites her interest.

Even as she professes that the world is boring and meaningless, she cherishes her battles with Ais.

Rivalry and Mutual Growth

Every clash between Revis and Ais pushes Ais to grow stronger.

The humiliation of being overpowered by Revis in their first duel becomes a major motivation for Ais’s training.

Ottar’s brutal regimen is in part a response to the threat Revis poses.

By the time of their last battle, Ais has transformed into a warrior who can stand toe‑to‑toe with Revis at her peak.

Revis, in turn, acknowledges that fighting Ais is one of the few things she truly “enjoyed.”

In their final battle, she pours everything into the duel, treating it as the culmination of her existence.

Her last word, “Aria,” as she dies, underscores how deeply Ais—and the image of Aria—has shaped her purpose.

Even in death, her focus remains fixed on that single connection.

Alliance with Evilus and the Corrupted Spirit

Revis works in tandem with the remnants of the Evilus faction, though she is not formally a member of any Familia.

Their shared objective is to bring about the Corrupted Spirit’s plans through Knossos and other schemes.

Her true master is the Corrupted Spirit, an abominable entity lurking deep within the Dungeon around the 60th floor.

She serves as both the spirit’s guardian and its conversation partner, existing largely to carry out its will.

Together with the Evilus remnants, she helps orchestrate ambushes, monster deployments, and labyrinth traps.

Her creature nature and tamer abilities make her the perfect agent to operate in the unnatural corridors of Knossos.

Opposition to Loki Familia and Others

Revis’s main opponents are the Loki Familia, especially Ais Wallenstein, Finn Deimne, and Riveria Ljos Alf.

She repeatedly engages them in large‑scale confrontations, striking at their leadership and morale.

Her assault that cripples Finn nearly brings the Familia to ruin in Knossos.

However, coordinated efforts, emergency strategies, and outside interference prevent catastrophic losses.

Indirectly, she is also opposed by the Hestia Familia, as Bell Cranel’s Argonaut skill is instrumental in stopping Ais’s descent into the Black Will, enabling Revis’s defeat.

Thus, even though they never clash directly, Bell’s actions determine the outcome of Revis’s final battle.

Revis likewise stands against the Hermes Familia during the Fetal Gem incident.

Her attempts to seize the gem from Lulune Louie and murder Lefiya mark the beginning of her overt war with the surface adventurers.

Levinas Darlda and the Birth of “Revis”

The full truth about Revis’s identity is revealed in Sword Oratoria volume 15.

Revis is not the birth name of a single person but a designation for a series of artificial creatures.

Nine hundred years prior, an adventurer named Levinas Darlda, a member of the Alecto Familia, died in the Dungeon.

His soul was later split into seven fragments.

These seven soul fragments were infused into seven separate magic stones.

Each stone was then embedded into a human corpse, creating a series of creature‑hybrids.

Each of these created beings was called “Revis” and served as both conversation partner and watcher for the Corrupted Spirit.

They were designed to be loyal, long‑lived weapons, bound to the Spirit’s purpose.

The red‑haired Revis who fights Ais throughout most of the story is revealed to be the “sixth Revis.”

This explains her long existence, her deep connection to the Spirit, and her detached, almost exhausted view of the world.

The Seventh Revis and Aura’s Body

After the events of the first Knossos invasion and following the death of the sixth Revis, one final Revis is created.

In Sword Oratoria volume 15, the Corrupted Spirit implants the last “Revis magic stone” into the corpse of Dionysus Familia adventurer Aura Moriel.

This new entity is the “seventh Revis.”

She appears before Ais and the coalition of Familia forces on the 60th floor of the Dungeon.

The Seventh Revis inherits the legacy of the previous six, as well as the corrupted soul fragment of Levinas Darlda.

Her existence shows that as long as the Corrupted Spirit and the remaining soul fragments endure, “Revis” can be born again.

This revelation reframes the entire concept of Revis from a single villain to a recurring, manufactured avatar of the Spirit’s will.

The sixth Revis’s death, while dramatic, turns out not to be the absolute end of the name, only the end of that particular incarnation.

Voice and Design

Revis is voiced by Sayaka Ohara in the anime adaptation.

Her portrayal emphasizes both Revis’s icy cruelty and her quiet, almost melancholic side.

Her design as a sharp‑eyed red‑haired beauty stands out among the series’ antagonists.

The contrast between her attractive human appearance and monstrous nature underlines the hybrid concept of a creature.

Early Concept and Changes

In early drafts of the story, Revis’s role was reportedly planned to be very different.

The initial concept had her as a corrupted form of Alise Lovell, the captain of the Astraea Familia, whose body would be possessed or taken over by another will.

The decision to abandon this idea left behind a key design remnant: the striking red hair.

Thus, Revis’s look is partly a holdover from this unused concept, even though her identity and backstory were completely changed in the final version.

This development history highlights how her character evolved from a possession‑type villain into a completely original creature, tied to centuries‑old experiments and the Corrupted Spirit.

The final Revis we see is the product of that evolution: a tragic, terrifying, and strangely fascinated warrior whose only true joy is in her battles with Ais.
