Ranpo still figured out that Oguri was the real killer and even discovered the crime was an assisted suicide, not a murder.
Police Surrender and Kidnapping
Oguri decided to surrender to the police.
But while in the police car, Nikolai Gogol, a member of "The Five Deadly Omens," attacked the car.
Oguri secretly warned Ranpo not to take the next big case, but this advice was not followed.
Gogol kidnapped Oguri to force him to break his Perfect Crime and revive police evidence to arrest Dazai.
Torture and Rescue
Gogol and others tortured Oguri, making him cancel his Perfect Crime, bringing back proof against Dazai.
Oguri was locked in a government-run bank, but Atsushi Nakajima and Kyōka Izumi rescued him.
Though he is suspicious of Ango Sakaguchi, he helped by sharing information about "The Five Deadly Omens."
He is now hiding in Edgar Allan Poe’s mansion, talking with Yokomizo in his mind while writing mystery stories.
