Faputa is a mysterious creature residing near the Village of Ilblu, located in the Sixth Layer of the Abyss, known as "The Capital of the Unreturned." She resembles a young girl, possessing brown skin, large eyes, four arms, and limbs covered in white fur. She is also known as the "Incarnation of Imperishable Value" and the "Princess of the Narehate."
Voice Actor: Misaki Kuno
Faputa has brown skin, golden eyes, and hair and ears that flare outwards like wings. Ruby-like horns are positioned on her head where a tiara might be worn. While her facial features and overall physique are similar to a human child, she possesses four arms adorned with sharp claws.
Her arms and lower body are covered in white fur. Five bushy, tail-like appendages emerge from her waist, resembling a nine-tailed fox, and appear like the indomitable Tokoshiekou flower when viewed from directly behind. Her mouth is filled with undifferentiated fangs, making her look like a beast when she opens it.
Her eyes usually appear round, large, and cute, but they contract dramatically when she's excited, giving her a terrifying gaze. Interestingly, her gender is likely female, and she is noted as one of the very few female characters with an outie belly button. After her revival, her hair grew longer and gained golden streaks.
At first glance, she might appear as a bird-like beast-human, similar to a Harpy. However, she can change her form, appearing almost amorphous. This includes standing slender and upright, transforming her feet into entwining shapes, or even expanding her tails to cover her entire body, becoming a fluffy, ball-like creature.
Faputa's sharp claws are dexterous enough for precise tasks, not just combat. She also conceals a fourth claw, which is concentrated with sensory organs. In the story, she uses this claw to identify identical individuals from Reg's bodily fluids and detect temperature changes.
She can produce an adhesive, "Faputa-nori," by mixing her excrement with minerals unique to the Sixth Layer. Its uses are diverse, including writing and marking, not just bonding. If minerals are unavailable, she can use her own blood as a substitute.
Her intelligence is high, as she can communicate in both the Ilblu language and the common tongue. Within the Riko-san Team, she, along with Reg, handles perimeter security and combat due to her astonishing physical abilities, healing power, immunity to the Abyss's curse of ascension, and excellent crisis detection capabilities.
Faputa's eyes can visually confirm the soul structure of beings in the Abyss and pinpoint the location of souls even if the opponent is a native creature with stealth abilities; they cannot be deceived. She can discern whether an enemy creature is edible by its scent. If edible, she engages in combat with the intent to consume. Her combat style involves eating and incorporating parts like skin or tentacles from opponents she deems edible, allowing her to steadily accumulate damage even against stronger foes.
She can communicate with those who have become Soul-Echoing Stones. This ability allowed her to hear the voice of Prushka, who had just become an incomplete stone, and together with Gaburoon, take her to the village, helping her become her true form, a whistle. This ability is also effective with other whistles, as she conversed with Lyza's keepsake whistle and received messages. Currently, only Faputa possesses this ability.
Faputa is the last daughter Irumyuui gave birth to outside the village, using the "Cradle of Desire." Her name was given to her by an Interference Unit she met after leaving the village. "Fau" means "precious daughter," and "Aputa" means "immortal thing," together signifying "Undying Princess." In turn, she gave that Interference Unit the name Gaburoon.
Her personality is fierce and proud like a wild beast, yet she also possesses the honesty and strong curiosity of a young girl, the dignity befitting a princess, and a flair for solemn pronouncements. She has a verbal tic, adding "sos" to the end of her sentences, which she claims is a form of polite speech; fans have affectionately nicknamed her "Sosuko."
Faputa encountered Reg before he lost his memories when she was crying, as Gaburoon, her foster parent, was severely damaged after being attacked by a Ryuusazai. Initially cautious, she gradually grew fond of him, coming to cherish him as her first friend and first love. Around this time, she was taught that adding "sos" to her sentences made them polite. She then sent off Reg after they made a certain "promise" and patiently awaited his return.
She deeply despises all the villagers for certain reasons. She seeks to eradicate the residents of the Village of Ilblu to avenge her many siblings who were eaten and died at their hands, and to liberate Irumyuui, who transformed into the village itself. When she sensed Reg's return to the Sixth Layer, she appeared in the village, driven by this mission. However, Reg had forgotten not only their "promise" but even Faputa herself.
She was unable to enter the village until Reg destroyed the entrance with his Incinerator. With the help of her siblings, she then carried out her revenge on the villagers. Upon receiving "memories" gifted by Belaf, Faputa learned that her mother was not necessarily lonely or unhappy, causing her sense of purpose to waver. She then fell into despair, compounded by Reg's lost memories of her.
She was further attacked by Ryuusazai during the chaos and witnessed Gaburoon's destruction, leaving her devastated. However, she recovered through the literal "devotion" of the villagers—her sworn enemies. This, combined with Belaf's "memories," led her to realize that "there is still so much I don't know, and the 'role' I was given might not be the entirety of my existence," thus awakening her ego. She then gained strength by consuming the bodies offered by almost all the villagers, finally achieving her ultimate goal of liberating her mother's soul.
After everything concluded, she encountered Vueloeluko, her "grandmother," whose remaining lifespan was short due to the Sixth Layer's curse of ascension. She listened to Vueloeluko recount her mother's life, witnessed her final moments, buried her body, and mourned her alongside her mother.
Reg invited Faputa, who had lost her immediate purpose, to "join them on their journey." Initially, she refused, feeling there was no point in being with Reg if he couldn't remember their "promise." However, after his heartfelt words and realizing he had "fulfilled the promise in outcome, even if he couldn't remember its content," she curtly said, "I'll think about it, sos," and joined Riko's delver team.
Initially, Faputa fiercely hated Riko, viewing her as an enemy who stole Reg's memories of her and obstructed her mission, even attempting to kill her, but Gaburoon stopped her. After everything ended, she realized that "Reg remained kind-hearted even after losing his memories thanks to Riko's presence, and thanks to Gaburoon preventing her, she could experience new things brought by Riko." She forgave Riko and grew fond of her during their journey.
Like Nanachi, her body is said to emit a fragrant scent, and she prides herself on her sweet-smelling backside. During her first encounter with Gaburoon, she was observed rubbing her backside against him as if marking him with her scent. According to Riko, she smells like "sunshine and steamed sweet potatoes." Perhaps due to her yearning for her mother, she greatly enjoys physical contact, clinging to or entwining herself around those she trusts. Inheriting her mother's memories, she emits a unique shriek of "SHA-AAAAN!" when wary or aggressive. Since joining the team, Faputa is often depicted in adorable deformed forms, such as becoming a fluffy ball or a liquid.
