Haruo Minami is a male character from Minami-ke, the eldest of four brothers and the only one among them who wears glasses.
Haruo Minami is the oldest of the four brothers in the Minami family.
It is only confirmed that he is older than Natsuki Minami, while his exact age, occupation, and other personal details remain unknown.
He is described by Tōma Minami as an "idiot."
Although he spends a lot of time thinking up ways to help Tōma, his ideas are usually off the mark, and Tōma tends to find him more annoying than helpful.
Haruo is the eldest brother in the family.
Among the four brothers, he stands out as the only one who wears glasses.
Until Volume 19 of the collected edition, he was also the only brother who had not met the three Minami sisters.
That changed in Chapter 367, included in Volume 20, where he finally meets Chiaki Minami.
Haruo has very limited interaction in the series.
Aside from his family, no exchanges with other characters have been depicted in the story.
His connection with Tōma is especially notable.
He tries to act for Tōma's sake, but his efforts usually miss the point and create distance instead.
Haruo first appeared in Chapter 49, which was later included in Volume 3 of the collected edition published in 2006.
At that time, however, his given name had not yet been revealed.
In the 2006 official fan book Minami-ke + Today in Class 5-2 Character Fan Book, page 26 listed him as "Minami ???" as the eldest son.
Later, in Minami-ke: Okaeri Official Fan Book, page 29 referred to him simply as the "eldest brother."
Even during the broadcasts of the first, second, and third television anime seasons, his name was still undisclosed.
In the anime staff credits, he was credited only as "eldest son."
The name Haruo was finally revealed in Chapter 129, published in issue 30 of Weekly Young Magazine in 2009 and later collected in Volume 7.
By that time, the voice actors involved in the anime were already calling him Haruo behind the scenes.
There is no particular connection between his name and any singer with the same pronunciation but different spelling.
