Elrand is the beautiful, middle-aged-looking elf who serves as guild master of the dungeon city Dran and is one of the few former S-rank adventurers in the Leonhardt Kingdom.

Despite his refined appearance and polite speech, he is notorious as a “dragon maniac” whose sanity partially shuts off whenever dragons are involved.

He possesses deep knowledge of monsters, pharmacology, and dismantling techniques, and even after retirement his combat abilities remain top-class.

At the same time, he hates paperwork, routinely dumps all admin work on his vice guild master Ugor, and gets scolded so often he has zero leverage over him.

Within the country, Elrand is effectively the only person with the technical skill to dismantle dragons properly, including preparing special preservation fluids for their organs.

This rare expertise makes him both invaluable to the guild and extremely dangerous to be around any dragon.

He is a hardcore gourmet like most long-lived elves and became addicted to food from Tsuyoshi Mukouda’s world, but he himself cannot cook.

He was once married but his wife left him, so he is now divorced and single; his competence as a guild master implies a very high level of ability during his active adventuring days.

On the surface, Elrand is polite, well-spoken, and usually reasonable.

As long as dragons are not involved, he behaves like a slightly pushy but essentially decent adult with common sense.

However, the moment anything related to dragons appears, his personality veers into full-blown fanatic.

He will ignore personal safety, social rules, job responsibilities, and even national boundaries for the sake of dragon research or simply being near a dragon.

Mukouda’s personal impression of him is “not a bad person, but a pain to deal with.”

After repeated stalking incidents, Mukouda eventually upgrades this evaluation to “a persistent pervert on the level of a black cockroach.”

He can be frightening when angry, and although he knows where the legal line is most of the time, his self-restraint has been steadily eroding since meeting an ancient dragon.

He has no head for paperwork or organization, which is why Ugor effectively runs the guild while Elrand focuses on high-level matters and, unfortunately, dragons.

Swordsmanship

Elrand’s swordsmanship is powerful enough to one-shot weak monsters with ease.

Mukouda recognized him as a genuine S-rank adventurer based on seeing him fight.

When Dora-chan is in danger, Elrand’s movements exceed even his usual standard, showing that he can draw out extraordinary “adrenaline strength” under emotional stress.

This suggests he uses body enhancement and magic control along with his sword techniques, especially in life-or-death situations.

Item Box

Elrand possesses an Item Box skill and keeps various valuable items inside.

Among these are high-class wines with dragon-themed names, such as Dragon Blood (a high-grade red wine) and Dragon Tears (a white wine).

He shares these rare wines with Mukouda’s party, happily using them as social currency to get closer to dragons and their master.

There is a gimmick that if you collect ten corks, you can exchange them for a goblet, which he of course takes very seriously.

Elemental Magic and Support Skills

Elrand can use water, plant/grass, wood, and wind magic, along with body enhancement and magic control.

In dungeons, plant-based magic tends to be easily negated and is treated even worse than earth magic in terms of usefulness.

In the manga adaptation by Akagishi K, he uses plant magic to bind and restrain lesser undead with vines, allowing the party to avoid direct combat.

This shows he is creative in using even unimpressive magic types to enable safe dungeon progress.

His pharmacological knowledge also supports his role as a dismantler and appraiser, especially for rare monsters like dragons and the sea dragon Leviathan.

He personally formulates the preservation liquids needed for dragon viscera, something no one else in the kingdom can replicate.

Elrand is a self-admitted dragon lover to an extreme, irrational degree.

He once dreamed of becoming a true “dragon slayer,” but over time his focus shifted from killing dragons to preserving, studying, and, frankly, worshipping them.

He once infiltrated the restricted archives of a now-ruined kingdom’s royal library because any documents mentioning dragons were stored as important texts there.

He snuck into the secure document room and painstakingly copied all the materials on pixie dragons, just to expand his knowledge.

The destroyed kingdom had thoroughly researched dragons as ingredients for elixirs, and Elrand happily inherited that body of knowledge.

However, one of those old “facts”—that pixie dragons live on magic power and the nectar of flowers—was later debunked by Dora-chan, who explained that pixie dragons mostly prefer meat and are basically omnivores.

After learning the method of the “Familiar Contract” from Mukouda, Elrand tried eating Mukouda’s beef bowl to see if he could also become powerful enough to contract a dragon himself.

But when he realized he could never recreate food of that level, he surprisingly gave up on that route rather quickly, admitting that dish was the best thing he had ever eaten in his long life.

He became a guild master specifically to gain access to dragon corpses for dismantling.

After 32 years in the position, he finally got to dismantle an earth dragon with his own hands, spending three days on it and fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Elrand insists he would never steal dragon materials, stating that if he did he would destroy the guild’s credibility and likely be enslaved or executed.

He claims he values his life too much to cross that line, and up until the “ancient dragon stalking” era he did appear to maintain a clear boundary of what was and was not acceptable.

Unfortunately, his later actions make this once-reasonable statement look like a massive boomerang.

After dismantling the earth dragon, Elrand becomes entranced by its blood, saying, “As expected of dragon blood. This deep crimson color is magnificent. I could stare at it forever.”

The corresponding illustration in the light novel is notoriously off-putting, often cited by fans as one of the lowest-quality, creepiest images in the series.

He buys earth dragon blood in two small bottles for 300 gold coins, half of the earth dragon’s liver for 1500 gold coins, and a single earth dragon fang for 2000 gold coins.

The fang purchase is not an official guild decision but entirely Elrand’s personal initiative, because he intends to craft a dragon sword from it—an abuse of his position as guild master.

Upon hearing from Mukouda that earth dragon meat is delicious, Elrand abandons his guild duties and joins Mukouda’s group for a dragon-meat dinner.

He dumps all guild paperwork on Vice Guild Master Ugor, essentially committing job abandonment, and pays Mukouda 100 gold coins for two dragon steaks (salt-pepper and soy-sauce flavored); Mukouda actually stops him from pushing 200 gold onto him.

When he later learns that Mukouda’s party has defeated a red dragon, Elrand refuses to return to Dran and instead rushes straight to the city of Eivring to meet them.

Again, this is blatant dereliction of duty, as he prioritizes the red dragon over his responsibilities as guild master.

In Eivring, he offends the local guild master Nadia by saying that the red dragon is more important than the Eivring dungeon itself.

He does eventually apologize, but this moment further cements his reputation as a dragon-first, everything-else-second kind of person.

Once Nadia permits Elrand to accompany Mukouda’s party into the Eivring dungeon, his stalking behavior toward Dora-chan truly begins.

In the Akagishi K manga version, there is a fake red dragon incident created by illusion magic, and because multiple people reported seeing this fake dragon entering and leaving the dungeon, Elrand persuades Fel to let him join by promising immediate on-site dismantling if a genuine red dragon is slain.

Later, his dragon obsession escalates into stalking an ancient dragon, “Grandpa Gon.”

Grandpa Gon eventually tells him bluntly: “Honestly, you’re just a nuisance. You’re too persistent. Begging for my blood and saliva and whatnot—so disgusting I almost blasted you with dragon breath just to disinfect you,” forcing Elrand to confront the fact that he is genuinely disliked.

From Mukouda’s point of view, Elrand starts as a somewhat annoying but fundamentally trustworthy adult.

He is helpful, knowledgeable, and polite, but his dragon mania is exhausting.

Elrand’s expertise in dismantling and monster lore proves indispensable to Mukouda, especially when dealing with dragons like the earth dragon, red dragon, and later the sea dragon Leviathan.

He teaches Mukouda the basics of dismantling and provides preservation liquids and technical guidance that no one else can.

Elrand is one of the very few people to whom Mukouda reveals his unique skill “Net Super.”

He also learns about the divine “Holy Stigma” on Mukouda and about the existence of the magical sword Caladbolg, although Elrand never fully understands the concept of “another world” and assumes Mukouda is simply a type of hero.

Because of his stalker-like behavior toward Grandpa Gon, Elrand’s reliability in Mukouda’s eyes plummets.

Mukouda actively avoids going to Dran to escape him, but because Elrand is the only dragon-dismantling specialist, Mukouda, Dora-chan, and Grandpa Gon grudgingly tolerate him whenever dragon dismantling is unavoidable.

Elrand eventually betrays some of Mukouda’s trust by blurting out that Mukouda owns a magic sword.

He also reveals that Fel possesses four magical swords, spreading that information to both the Adventurers’ Guild and the Leonhardt Kingdom.

After this, the only major secrets Mukouda manages to keep from Elrand are his Holy Stigma and the true nature and origin of the “Net Super” skill.

Even so, the highest-level guild officials and the capital’s top guild masters seem to consider Elrand unreliable in all matters except work ability, so they probably do not share with him that Mukouda is an otherworlder dragged in by a hero summoning.

Mukouda’s initial decision to conceal his appraisal skill and other details turns out to be wise, given Elrand’s tendency to blurt out dangerous information when excited.

By the point Elrand is stalking Grandpa Gon and Dora-chan, Mukouda regards him as a hazardous loose cannon.

Elrand is aware that Mukouda has a special skill that allows him to procure extraordinary food and items.

He knows Mukouda has a divine blessing in the form of a Holy Stigma and that he possesses the magic sword Caladbolg.

Elrand misinterprets Mukouda as some kind of hero, not understanding the exact mechanism of hero summoning or that Mukouda is an “otherworlder.”

In some versions, Mukouda even intentionally avoids showing Caladbolg after seeing how Elrand reacts to rare items.

Although Elrand spills the existence of Mukouda’s magic swords to both the guild and the kingdom, he does not reveal the Net Super skill or the Holy Stigma.

Whether this is because he does not fully grasp their importance or because those facts were never clearly explained to him remains ambiguous.

Jorgen, a High Elf and Elrand’s great-uncle, reveals that Elrand once belonged to an adventurer party named “Lightning Storm.”

Elrand is Jorgen’s brother’s grandson, through that brother’s second wife, who was an elf.

This makes Elrand a quarter High Elf, which may partly account for his exceptional longevity and magical aptitude.

Jorgen confirms that Elrand visited his village in the past and arrived right after a green dragon had been defeated.

The villagers and Jorgen’s party needed three days and three nights of continuous fighting to finally bring down that green dragon.

Elrand, seeing a dragon for the first time, was extremely excited and went around asking everyone endless questions about it.

This early exposure to a real dragon seems to have solidified his lifelong obsession.

The sight of a true dragon corpse effectively imprinted on him, directing his ambitions toward dragon slaying and, later, dragon study and dismantling.

Before becoming a guild master, Elrand was a member of another adventurer party called the “Band of Sunlight.”

Rodolfo, one of his former teammates, remains a close acquaintance and one of the few people who understand him.

During this period, their party challenged the Dran dungeon but chose to retreat without fighting the final boss on the un-cleared lowest floor.

They also attempted the Eivring dungeon but had to give up on the 17th floor because they lacked a reliable way to defeat the undead on the 18th floor.

These failures show that even highly capable parties could not easily conquer those dungeons.

Elrand’s later success in clearing Eivring with Mukouda’s party is therefore a major milestone in his long adventuring career.

Elrand retired from active adventuring 32 years before the main story and became guild master at age 302.

He chose to stay within the Adventurers’ Guild structure because he believed that one day dragons would reappear and he wanted to be there when they did.

Around 238 years before the current timeline, when Elrand was still only a B-rank adventurer, dragons ceased appearing as targets that could actually be defeated.

Realizing his physical limits and the decreasing chances of achieving his dream as an adventurer, he withdrew from the front lines while still maintaining his passion for dragons.

He manages high-level adventurer affairs in Dran and memorizes the names and capabilities of all high-ranking adventurers who pass through the city.

This is so he can summon them quickly in emergencies, which shows he does take his role seriously—when not distracted by dragons.

However, his paperwork phobia is severe, and daily guild operations are effectively handled by Vice Guild Master Ugor.

Elrand frequently abuses his position to prioritize personal dragon-related goals, such as buying dragon fangs at inflated prices or taking extended breaks to join Mukouda.

His decision to abandon his post after hearing of Mukouda’s ancient dragon companion crosses a line even by his standards.

This begins a long chain of disciplinary actions and punishment from guild headquarters and his colleagues.

Upon hearing that Mukouda has contracted an ancient dragon, Elrand snaps.

He unilaterally submits his resignation as guild master to guild headquarters without telling Ugor directly.

Instead, he leaves only a letter for Ugor and immediately rushes to Mukouda’s home, intending to live near Dora-chan and Grandpa Gon.

This is pure dragon-driven impulse, with zero regard for professional or legal consequences.

After receiving the report, Ugor travels to the city of Carrerina, where Mukouda’s base is located, and captures Elrand.

As punishment, Elrand is given a one-year salary reduction and placed under constant monitoring, with the warning that if he escapes again he will be wanted nationwide.

Later, when the sea dragon Leviathan is dismantled, Elrand uses the pretext of personally returning the magic sword he borrowed from Mukouda to charge alone from the royal capital to Carrerina.

Jorgen, having been briefed in advance, intercepts him and delivers a well-deserved physical and magical “correction.”

Even after all these incidents, Elrand internally shows no real sign of remorse.

He continues to consider any sacrifice in the name of dragons to be fundamentally justified, as long as he does not cross into overt theft or direct treason.

At one point, Elrand’s repeated desertions and stalking lead guild headquarters to mobilize multiple S-rank parties to retrieve him.

He is then held responsible for all costs and damages related to this “Elrand capture operation.”

Five S-rank parties participate, and all their expenses and compensations are unanimously decided to be charged to Elrand.

On top of that, the guild hires two A-rank parties to escort the wagon transporting Elrand from the royal capital and back, adding even more to his debt.

He is also forcibly made to work at the Carrerina Adventurers’ Guild under close supervision, performing actual guild work while trapped behind a multi-caster barrier.

This barrier is so strong that even if every caster maintaining it were completely drunk, Elrand alone still could not break it.

While locked in this reinforced room, Jorgen, his wife Adela, Ugor, Moira, and others literally “pound some sense into him” with a combination of scolding and physical punishment.

Afterward, he is transported back to the capital to face a figurative public “hanging” from the highest-ranking guild officials.

Given the vast sum he must pay—S-rank recall, A-rank escort, and assorted damages—Elrand will effectively be working for free for a long time.

This financial ruin is considered part of his punishment for abandoning his post and misusing guild transport of the magic sword Caladbolg, an act that nearly counted as theft.

Dora-chan, the pixie dragon contracted to Mukouda, is the central object of Elrand’s dragon obsession.

Among all dragon types, the pixie dragon is especially rare, so Elrand is completely infatuated with Dora-chan.

Unfortunately for him, Dora-chan finds Elrand unnerving and stressful.

Mukouda even avoids making Dran his main base to protect Dora-chan’s peace of mind and prevent Elrand from trying to move in.

When Mukouda returns from the Elman Kingdom with Grandpa Gon as a new familiar, Elrand immediately rushes to Mukouda’s house and essentially squats there for about a month.

He bothers both Dora-chan and Grandpa Gon during this time, constantly asking for samples of blood or bodily fluids, or trying to observe them at close range.

After the dismantling of the sea dragon Leviathan, Elrand again appears at Mukouda’s home using the excuse of returning a borrowed magic sword.

His real purpose, however, is once more to stalk Dora-chan and Grandpa Gon.

Grandpa Gon openly tells him that his behavior is disgusting and that he seriously considered using dragon breath to “sanitize” Elrand out of existence.

Only then does Elrand truly face the reality that his beloved dragons, far from appreciating his devotion, see him as creepy and annoying.

Among adventurers, Elrand is famous as a dragon-loving eccentric with a dangerous lack of restraint.

He is also well-known for his overwhelming beauty—described as almost frightening—and for being one of the rare former S-rank adventurers.

His colleagues respect his knowledge, combat ability, and specific technical skills, especially dragon dismantling.

At the same time, they hold a deep, almost institutional distrust of his judgment in anything involving dragons or personal impulses.

Ugor, his vice guild master, is arguably the true backbone of the Dran guild.

Elrand constantly relies on Ugor to handle paperwork, policy, and day-to-day management and is chronically on the receiving end of Ugor’s anger.

High-level guild officials in the royal capital treat Elrand as someone who is highly capable but needs to be tightly leashed.

They are willing to deploy significant resources to restrain and punish him when he steps too far out of line, as seen with the S-rank retrieval operation.

Rodolfo, his former party member from the Band of Sunlight, remains one of the very few who consistently understand and support him.

Even so, Rodolfo clearly recognizes Elrand’s dragon mania as a serious character flaw, not just a quirky hobby.

Like most elves with long lifespans, Elrand has a refined palate and deep appreciation for good food.

After tasting Mukouda’s beef bowl, he declares it the best thing he has eaten in all his centuries of life.

He recognizes that the level of cooking Mukouda achieves is beyond his own ability to reproduce.

Because of this, he gives up on the idea of cooking such dishes himself and instead focuses on experiencing them whenever he can.

Dragon meat in particular fascinates him both as a gourmet ingredient and as a symbol of his life’s obsession.

He is willing to pay enormous sums and even neglect work duties to dine on dragon steak.

His Item Box wines, Dragon Blood and Dragon Tears, show that even his alcohol collection is dragon-themed.

For Elrand, dragons permeate every part of his life—from professional duty and research to food, drink, and personal relationships.
