Numata is a teacher in charge of student life guidance at Haruo Yaguchi’s middle school.
He is considered a formidable opponent by Haruo and his friends, as he often drops by the local arcade to keep an eye on them.
Despite his reputation as a strict supervisor, Numata occasionally visits the arcade simply to play games himself.
He has a striking resemblance to Lau Chan, a character from Virtua Fighter, not just in looks but also in mannerisms.
When he greets people, he likes to throw in some Chinese phrases, but all conversations with him take place in normal Japanese.
His language quirk adds to his playful yet mysterious persona.
Numata isn’t as tough as he seems—he gets motion sickness easily.
During a school trip, he became ill just from riding the bullet train, showing a surprisingly vulnerable side.
In a bonus manga, Numata’s daughter Kumié makes an appearance.
She bears a nearly identical resemblance to Pai Chan, another Virtua Fighter character, right down to her computer-generated-looking face.
In the spin-off ‘DASH’, set twelve years after Haruo and his friends graduate in 2007, Numata is still working as a teacher at the same school.
He’s shown trying to set up Genta Doi, a former student and now a fellow teacher, with his still-single daughter, continuing to meddle (in a well-meaning way) in his students’ lives.
