Sol Badguy

Sol Badguy is tall, with a height of 184 cm and weighs 74 kg.

He has reddish-brown eyes and a strong, muscular body.

He wears red clothing covered with belts, and a red headgear, which helps control his Gear powers.

Long ago, his hair was darker and eyes were blue, but now his hair is lighter and wild.

He always wears his favorite denim pants made by a cheap brand called "RIOT."

Sometimes, he ties up his hair with a fake ponytail.

If Sol removes his headgear, his Gear side takes over, and his hair grows even longer.

In different games, his outfit changes a little, but he always looks powerful and cool.

Sol often acts grumpy, rude, and like a dark hero.

He says things like, “That’s heavy,” or “Here we go again.”

He seems cold, but he is not evil at heart.

Sol used to be rough and not very friendly, often thinking everyone is annoying.

The longer he chased his own goals with no big progress, the more he acted like a tough guy.

Over the years, especially after meeting with Ky Kiske and Sin Kiske, he has become softer and talks more to others.

He now tries to accept people around him, comparing them to fireworks he does not want to miss.

Sol’s rough attitude started long ago when he was still a scientist.

He is honest, careful, and actually very wise under his grumpy words.

Sol’s real name is Frederick Balsara.

He used to be a scientist in the United States, working on ways to control Gear cells.

Long ago, his friend (called “That Man”) and his lover, Aria, were part of the same project.

“That Man” made Sol into the first Gear by adding Gear cells to his body to save his life.

As a result, Sol became immortal, but lost his normal life and Aria was taken away from him.

He started searching the world to destroy Gears and find “That Man.”

Sol was also part of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights before stealing the Fireseal sword and leaving the Order.

Sol is not just a great fighter but also an amazing scientist.

He invented weapons, like the Outrage series, to fight against Gears.

In battle, Sol uses the Fireseal sword, which can boost his fire power.

He fights with lots of punching, kicking, and using fire.

Sol can use “Dragon Install” to boost his power and even turn into a dragon-like creature.

He can handle magic, especially fire, and he’s great at inventing things.

He can summon machine-like Servants in GUILTY GEAR 2 and fight together with them.

Because he is a Gear, he can heal fast and hardly ages.

Weapons

• Fireseal: A big sword that makes Sol’s fire attacks stronger. Sol created this weapon himself.
• Junkyard Dog: A large sword and gun combo he made later, hiding the Fireseal inside.
• Outrage Mk. II: A powerful new weapon that can destroy a mountain if used wrong.
• Physical Attacks: Sol fights with his sword but also uses lots of punches and kicks.

“That Man” & Aria

“That Man” was Sol’s close friend and research partner.

Aria was Sol’s lover. After Sol became a Gear, Aria was taken away.

Later, Sol makes peace with “That Man.”

Ky Kiske

Ky Kiske was his rival from the Sacred Order days.

Sol stole the Fireseal, which made Ky chase after him.

Over time, they become friends and call each other by name.

Sin Kiske

Sin is Ky’s son with Dizzy, and Sol raised him when Ky became a king.

Sin calls Sol “Old man” and learned a lot from him, even if Sol’s way of teaching was very rough.

Dizzy

Dizzy is the daughter of Justice (who was Aria), making her like Sol’s daughter.

Sol cares for her quietly, while acting uninterested.

In GUILTY GEAR STRIVE, he starts accepting her as his daughter openly.

Axl Low

Sol and Axl are both from the 21st century and get along well as old friends.

The Gear Project and Becoming Sol Badguy

Sol was once Frederick Balsara, a scientist studying magic energy.

He worked with “That Man” and Aria.

Sick and on the edge of death, he was turned into a prototype Gear to save his life.

He became immortal and super strong but lost his normal life.

Losing Aria and the Quest for Revenge

“That Man” turned Aria into Justice and left with her.

Sol, filled with pain and rage, started to hunt Gears and look for “That Man” for revenge.

He wandered for more than a hundred years, destroying many Gears.

Sacred Order and Stealing the Fireseal

Sol joined the Sacred Order under the name “Sol.”

He built the Outrage weapons to fight Gears.

Sol stole the sword Fireseal from the Order and left, making Ky Kiske chase him.

Meeting Sin and Dizzy

Sol took care of Sin to protect him from being hunted as a Gear.

He becomes something like a father to Sin.

Later, Sol finds out that Dizzy is actually Justice’s (Aria’s) daughter, making her his daughter too.

Reconciliation and the Modern Era

Sol slowly makes peace with “That Man” and others from his past.

He builds a new life, accepting friends and family.

In GUILTY GEAR STRIVE, Sol lets go of his headgear, with his Gear power under control and his hair cut short.

• Sol’s name comes from the word “Sol,” meaning “sun.”

A vampire named Slayer gave him this name.

• The name “Badguy” was used because people had trouble finding out who he really was.
• His real full name, Frederick Balsara, is a tribute to Freddie Mercury (whose birth name was Farrokh Bulsara).
• Sol loves listening to QUEEN and owns a precious “Sheer Heart Attack” record.
• He used to smoke, but quit because of a bet with Chipp Zanuff.
• Sol never liked wearing underwear due to the lines it made, just like his creator Daisuke Ishiwatari.
