Character Setting

Edit

Jaralis is a male lion demi-human known for his cunning, ambition, and deep-seated malice beneath a façade of politeness. As a prominent antagonist, Jaralis despises Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, and covertly schemes to dispose of him, viewing him as an unworthy intruder. Behind his refined manners lies a heart filled with disdain and a hunger for power, driving him to betrayal, manipulation, and treachery in his quest to rule Siltvelt.

Jaralis possesses the unmistakable features of a lion demi-human, exuding both majesty and an intimidating presence. His mane is thick and regal, framing his sharp, calculating eyes. He stands tall and commands attention wherever he goes, intimidating both allies and enemies alike.

On the surface, Jaralis is courteous but, in reality, his attitude is ruthlessly condescending. He schemes behind closed doors, making use of people with cold efficiency. He harbors a strong resentment towards outsiders, especially Naofumi Iwatani, whom he aims to frame and eliminate by any means. Ambition is the core of Jaralis—a man who will stop at nothing, even betrayal, to seize ultimate power.

Jaralis is a prominent political figure in Siltvelt, with aspirations that stretch far beyond his current rank. In his youth and rise to power, he formed bitter rivalries, particularly with the father of Atla and Fohl. After orchestrating their father's assassination, Jaralis pushed the siblings into slavery, putting them on a vengeful path. He maintained secret relations with enemy nations, eager to create moments of false heroism for himself.

Jaralis is exceptionally skilled in deception, political manipulation, and assassination. When cornered, he resorts to desperate measures: he uses mysterious potions provided by an unknown faction to transform himself into a raging monster. As a beast, his physical strength and ferocity are unmatched, though ultimately uncontrollable.

Naofumi Iwatani: Sees Naofumi as an unwanted, lowly intruder and attempts to orchestrate his downfall through schemes and poison.

Atla and Fohl: Responsible for making them orphans and slaves, Jaralis is the object of their burning hatred and the center of their quest for vengeance.

Political Allies: Jaralis manipulates those around him for personal gain, willing to betray anyone for a step closer to power.

Jaralis often chooses elaborate, indirect means of assassination or trapping his targets, preferring to maintain an image of respectability.

His reliance on mysterious medications in critical moments proves both his desperation and willingness to sacrifice his own humanity for power.

“Respect is earned, not given. And I see none to be earned here.”

“A lion does not stoop to threats—he orchestrates fate itself.”

“Let others believe in heroes. I create my own victories.”

Hidden Resentment and Plots

Jaralis’s story begins when Naofumi Iwatani is summoned to Siltvelt’s enemy country, Melromarc. Jaralis immediately resents Naofumi’s presence and, while displaying polite civility, secretly plots against him. He attempts to frame Naofumi by sending women to compromise him and poisoning his meals—each act calculated to create incidents for political gain.

Betrayal and the Creation of Enemies

During the war, Jaralis conspires with enemy factions, hoping to maneuver himself into situations where he might "save" Siltvelt and appear a hero. However, when those plans are foiled by the clever maneuvers of Atla and Fohl’s father, Jaralis chooses direct action. Harboring a grudge, Jaralis assassinates him, causing the siblings to lose their protector and fall into slavery. This act cements Jaralis as their sworn enemy and the architect of their suffering.

The Duel and Downfall

The rivalry comes to a head when Jaralis faces a duel with Atla and Fohl. Despite employing dirty tricks and aid from external powers, he finds himself overpowered by their determination. Desperate, Jaralis drinks a mysterious elixir, transforming himself into a monstrous beast. Unleashed and wild, he rampages, but Atla and Fohl—now empowered and transformed—are able to defeat him, bringing an end to his reign of terror.

Alternate Timeline: The Spear Hero’s Second Chance

In the "Spear Hero’s Second Chance" storyline, specifically the Siltvelt arc (fifth loop), Jaralis gathers with other radicals to plot Naofumi’s manipulation and demise once again. This time, Motoyasu Kitamura, using his skills to eavesdrop while in stealth, discovers the plot. Motoyasu incinerates Jaralis and his accomplices with fire magic, erasing every trace and quietly eliminating the threat without a trace.

Jaralis’s journey is a cautionary tale of unchecked ambition and the corrosive nature of betrayal. While his legacy is one of pain and cruelty, it is also marked by how far one can fall when blinded by the hunger for power.
