Though he is not the friendliest person, Tomoya is very smart, ranking sixth in the school’s first-term midterm exams. He spent a year living in Los Angeles, which made his English very good, but he has a noticeable accent, especially when talking to native speakers. Tomoya used to date Kaho Tsuchiya from Class C and got into trouble for his bad behavior, leading to a messy breakup. As the story goes on, he and his attitude start to change. Even after graduating, his relationship with Kaho remains rocky but deep. He is known for his brash personality, but at heart, he respects talented people even if he doesn’t show it openly.

Trouble with Kaho Tsuchiya
Tomoya is dating Kaho from Class C, but he finds out that she’s also dating Hiroto Maehara.
Tomoya and his friends violently confront Maehara, which is witnessed by Korosensei and the students of E Class.
Later, Tomoya gets tricked by E Class while on a date with Kaho — he is forced to drink a powerful laxative made by Manami Okuda, and gets covered in caterpillars on his way to a restroom.
This embarrassing event ruins his date, and Tomoya and Kaho have a loud argument, leading them to break up.
School Competitions
During the first-term midterms, Tomoya is ranked sixth overall, showing his academic strength.
He tries to bother E Class members while they study in the library for the finals, but ends up losing his spot to Rio Nakamura in the English exam, dropping to third overall.
In the second-term finals, he fails to stay in the school’s top ten, and his grades drop.
Changing for the Better
After A Class loses to E Class in the finals, Tomoya and other A Class students begin to see E Class differently.
They start to change their attitudes, and Tomoya becomes less harsh and more friendly.
Graduation
At the graduation ceremony, Tomoya helps protect E Class as they leave for the Ministry of Defense bus.
He acts cool, but quietly smiles and wishes Nagisa Shiota a farewell with the words, “See you,” showing his respect and personal growth.
