Tomoya Seo

Tomoya Seo is easily recognized by his thick lips, which stand out on his face.

His ears are set a bit lower than most people's, which others sometimes notice.

Tomoya is outspoken, sometimes mean, and quick to criticize others.

He believes strongly in school rankings and status, often looking down on lower-ranked students.

He uses harsh words and can be very blunt.

Still, Tomoya quietly respects those who are truly talented, especially Gakushu Asano, though he refers to him without adding any honorifics.

By the end of the story, Tomoya becomes kinder and more open-minded.

Tomoya’s father’s job made him live in Los Angeles for a year, where he learned to speak English well.

He goes to Kunugigaoka Junior High and is a member of Class 3-A, one of the top classes in the school.

Tomoya is also one of the Five Virtuosos, the elite students of the main campus.

Tomoya is among the highest ranked students at school, placing sixth in the first-term midterm exams.

He is especially good at English due to his time in Los Angeles.

Even though his grammar is solid, his English has an accent that native speakers like Kevin make fun of.

His skills in other subjects are also strong.

Tomoya dated Kaho Tsuchiya from Class C, but their relationship was full of ups and downs.

They broke up after a big fight, especially after Tomoya and his friends bullied Maehara for dating Kaho at the same time.

Kaho and Tomoya continue to break up and get back together even after they reach college, always feeling drawn back to each other.

Tomoya is part of the Five Virtuosos and is friends with them.

He often addresses Gakushu Asano by name only, showing a different level of respect than his other classmates.

When Tomoya talks with Kevin, his accent is translated into a maiko (Kyoto dialect) style.

He is the only member of the Five Virtuosos who calls Gakushu Asano by his name only, without honorifics.

After losing his top ten position in the second-term finals, Tomoya becomes much humbler.

During graduation, he helps protect the E Class students from nosy reporters and even smiles as he says goodbye to Nagisa Shiota.

“Hmph. If you spoke like that in LA, everyone would laugh at you.”

Trouble with Kaho Tsuchiya

Tomoya is dating Kaho from Class C, but he finds out that she’s also dating Hiroto Maehara.

Tomoya and his friends violently confront Maehara, which is witnessed by Korosensei and the students of E Class.

Later, Tomoya gets tricked by E Class while on a date with Kaho — he is forced to drink a powerful laxative made by Manami Okuda, and gets covered in caterpillars on his way to a restroom.

This embarrassing event ruins his date, and Tomoya and Kaho have a loud argument, leading them to break up.

School Competitions

During the first-term midterms, Tomoya is ranked sixth overall, showing his academic strength.

He tries to bother E Class members while they study in the library for the finals, but ends up losing his spot to Rio Nakamura in the English exam, dropping to third overall.

In the second-term finals, he fails to stay in the school’s top ten, and his grades drop.

Changing for the Better

After A Class loses to E Class in the finals, Tomoya and other A Class students begin to see E Class differently.

They start to change their attitudes, and Tomoya becomes less harsh and more friendly.

Graduation

At the graduation ceremony, Tomoya helps protect E Class as they leave for the Ministry of Defense bus.

He acts cool, but quietly smiles and wishes Nagisa Shiota a farewell with the words, “See you,” showing his respect and personal growth.
