Curse Devil

The Curse Devil is a devil that forms contracts with humans in exchange for a lethal curse power.

It is closely associated with Aki Hayakawa and a contract user known as Santa Claus, each of whom uses its power under different terms.

The Curse Devil’s ability centers on “cursing” a target to death once specific conditions are fulfilled.

When activated correctly, its power can reliably kill the target, making it one of the most dangerous contract abilities in the series.

To invoke the curse, the contractor must strike the target with a special nail-like weapon while meeting the contract’s conditions.

Once the conditions are satisfied and the contractor pays the required price, the Curse Devil manifests its power and the target is killed by the curse.

Its effectiveness is reduced against weapon hybrids (such as Chainsaw Man or Katana Devil), who can revive after death.

Because these hybrids can return from fatal injuries, the otherwise absolute kill of the Curse Devil becomes far less decisive against them.

Aki Hayakawa calls the Curse Devil simply “Curse.”

He carries a sword shaped like an oversized nail, which serves as the medium for the Curse Devil’s power.

Under Aki’s contract, he must stab the target with this nail-sword three times to fully trigger the curse.

In exchange for successfully activating the curse, Aki pays with his remaining lifespan, making each use a serious and costly decision.

Once the third stab lands and the contract is fulfilled, the Curse Devil appears and curses the target to death.

Because of the steep price in lifespan, Aki treats this power as a last-resort trump card rather than a routine technique.

Santa Claus also has a contract with the Curse Devil, but the terms differ from Aki Hayakawa’s agreement.

The exact conditions and costs for Santa Claus are distinct and tailored to that user’s needs and abilities.

While the detailed mechanics of Santa Claus’s contract are not identical to Aki’s three-stab condition, the result is still a deadly curse attack.

This highlights that the Curse Devil can structure its contracts flexibly, changing the rules depending on the contractor.

In combat, the Curse Devil’s power revolves around setting up the conditions needed to trigger the curse.

This often involves close-quarters engagement to land multiple strikes with the nail-like weapon.

For Aki Hayakawa, fights using the Curse Devil’s power are high-risk but potentially high-reward.

If he successfully lands the required stabs, the enemy is almost certainly doomed, but he sacrifices portions of his lifespan each time.

Because of this, the Curse Devil’s power is rarely spammed or used casually.

Instead, it tends to appear at critical moments, turning the tide of battle when no other option is sufficient.
