Takeru is a male character in Minami-ke, a black-haired young man with smooth, straight hair who is a relative of the three Minami sisters and acts like an overprotective guardian despite still being in his twenties.
Takeru is a cousin of Haruka Minami, Kana Minami, and Chiaki Minami, not their uncle.
He is the son of the older sister of the Minami sisters' mother.
He is nevertheless called “Uncle Takeru” by the sisters, a nickname that began after Chiaki referred to him as “the man who gives us 10,000 yen at New Year.”
Kana and Chiaki often simply call him Takeru.
He is depicted as a man with black, sleek hair.
He is also the only character in the series shown with visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles around the eyes.
Takeru often worries about the three sisters and looks after them with a distinctly parental attitude.
He is wary of Fujioka, who visits the Minami household frequently.
At the same time, he has a somewhat unreliable side.
He cannot fully let go of his feelings for his ex-girlfriend Reiko, and he even visits the Minami home to complain about it.
Although Haruka treats him as a dependable relative, all three sisters, including Haruka, have at times forgotten exactly how they are related to him by blood.
According to Takeru, when he stands a pen upright and then lets go, the thing someone is looking for tends to be in the direction the pen falls.
This apparently happened when Chiaki was searching for something, and the pen fell in the correct direction.
He says there is no trick to it.
It is presented more like a kind of fortune-telling.
The Minami Sisters
Takeru is close to the Minami sisters and appears at their house often.
His role in their lives is somewhere between relative, guardian, and family friend.
Reiko
Reiko is Takeru’s ex-girlfriend, and he remains emotionally attached to her.
Although they were supposed to have broken up in his first appearance, her name continues to come up many times later in the original manga and in drama CDs.
In the original manga volumes, there is an episode suggesting that Takeru has a poor sense of direction and probably cannot read maps properly himself.
The booklet included with Volume 1 of the DVD release of the third television anime season, Minami-ke: Okaeri, explicitly states that he has no sense of direction and cannot read maps.
