Mald

Mald is always seen wearing a full suit of armor. He has a noticeable mustache and carries a large sword and shield, fitting the image of a frontline fighter or knight.

Mald is arrogant, looking down on people, especially Naofumi and demi-humans. He likes to be on the winning side and serves his superiors with fake respect while secretly feeling superior. Mald believes in his twisted version of justice, often calling anything weaker or inconvenient "evil" and punishing it. He loves to bully weaker people, especially Rishia Ivyred, making her do chores and blaming her for things she did not do.

Mald is a noble from Melromarc and switched parties multiple times. At first, he joined Ren Amaki’s group, then briefly Motoyasu Kitamura’s, and finally settled with Itsuki Kawasumi. His social status as a noble allows him to act superior and manipulate situations to his advantage.

Mald uses a two-handed sword and shield in battle. He has access to some special skills:

• Guillotine: A Curse Skill that binds and crushes targets with chains.
• Jason Murder: A skill where he dons a mask like a famous horror movie villain and unleashes powerful slashes.

His power is more due to his equipment and party boosts rather than actual combat training; his lack of pain tolerance holds him back significantly.

• Itsuki Kawasumi: Mald was once a member of Itsuki’s party but later tied him up and betrayed him.
• Rishia Ivyred: Mald bullies her constantly and blames her for the party’s problems, eventually causing her to be kicked out.
• Motoyasu Kitamura: Calls Mald "Smoked Meat" after seeing how he was executed.
• Naofumi Iwatani: Disliked and looked down on by Mald, who calls him "Shield."
• Malty S Melromarc: Teams up with her to plot against Naofumi and cause turmoil.

• “Guh... Justice!”
• “Hero of the Bow! Could it be you were defeated? How pathetic!”

Early Party Transfers

Mald started with Ren Amaki’s party, left because Ren was too independent, then quickly quit Motoyasu’s group due to his womanizing. He finally joined Itsuki Kawasumi.

Bullying Rishia and Corruption

In Itsuki’s party, Mald and others created a ranking system, putting Rishia at the very bottom and making her do all the chores. When the group traveled to Cal Mira Island, he and others framed Rishia for breaking valuable items, getting her expelled.

Betrayal after the Spirit Tortoise Battle

When Itsuki failed during the Spirit Tortoise crisis, Mald saw his status drop and tied up Itsuki to abandon him. He then started working with Malty S Melromarc, hiding in Zeltoble.

Manipulation and Scheming

Mald manipulated Itsuki from the shadows, using him to fight in underground arenas to earn money, all while plotting to assassinate Queen Mirellia Q Melromarc and Naofumi. He stole valuable equipment, including the Spirit Tortoise Sword and Shield, seriously wounding their creators and further angering Naofumi.

Defeats and Downfall

Despite his confidence, Mald was soundly beaten by Naofumi, stripped of his stolen gear, and retreated to a secret lab, only to be brainwashed himself. He tried fighting Naofumi and Raphtalia bare-handed and was quickly knocked out by Atla and Filo.

Capture and Execution

When he woke, Mald shouted about justice and mocked Itsuki for losing. He and his fellow ex-party members were executed in a Brazen Bull, ending up burnt and earning the name “Smoked Meat” from Motoyasu. Ironically, Itsuki later gained a skill based on his execution.

Written and Manga Differences

In the light novel, Mald didn’t stage a coup but did spend all the money Itsuki earned, eventually leaving him with huge debts. He joined S'yne’s enemies and sided with the Waves’ vanguard. He gained temporary power by hijacking a vassal weapon but was easily beaten by Rishia and lost the weapon after killing a fellow villain. He was tortured by Itsuki for information before being returned home to face the death penalty.

The Reprise of the Spear Hero

Motoyasu repeatedly kills Mald for his crimes against Itsuki and others. Mald often tries to betray or manipulate the heroes but is always defeated, sometimes in embarrassing ways like losing an arm-wrestling contest with Raphtalia or by being poisoned into revealing secrets.

Other Incidents

Mald’s laziness meant he stopped training and became dependent on easy level-ups, making him less effective than those with real skill and hard work. He insulted Rishia just for standing out, bullied her out of the party, and never realized his own bad actions would come back to haunt him.

• Mald is more of a bully than a real fighter, often targeting weaker allies for his own amusement.
• Despite his claims of justice, he frequently acts cowardly, especially when faced with real danger.
• In the comedy spin-offs, he often tries to show off but ends up causing trouble instead.

• Mald used his status to steal party rewards and wealth, leaving main party members like Itsuki out of their fair share.
• He is incapable of forming real teamwork or loyalty, constantly backstabbing and betraying others for his own gain.
