Corpse Party is a Japanese horror adventure game series developed by Team GrisGris, originally created by Makoto Kedouin using RPG Tsukuru Dante98 software.
The first entry, simply titled *Corpse Party*, was released in 1996 as part of *LOGIN Sofcom* issue 6 after winning the grand prize at the second ASCII Entertainment Software Contest.
The series is known for its juxtaposition of cute anime-style character designs with extremely gory and gruesome horror content, creating a uniquely unsettling experience.
The narrative typically follows a group of high school students from Kisaragi Academy who perform a charm called "Sachiko Ever After" as a farewell for a transferring classmate, Mayu Suzumoto.
After completing the ritual, a sudden earthquake transports them to a decaying, haunted elementary school known as Heavenly Host Elementary, where they are separated and must find a way to escape.
The school exists in a distorted space-time where past and present intermingle, and the students are relentlessly hunted by the vengeful spirits of children who died in a tragic past incident.
From the Original Dante98 Version
Satoshi Mochida: The 17-year-old protagonist who is timid and easily scared but fiercely protective of his younger sister, Yuka Mochida.
Naomi Nakashima: Satoshi's childhood friend and classmate who harbors feelings for him; she is also the best friend of Seiko Shinohara.
Yoshiki Kishinuma: Satoshi's best friend with a sharp tongue and cynical attitude, though he is fundamentally kind-hearted.
Ayumi Shinozaki: The class representative who introduces the "Sachiko Ever After" charm, inadvertently setting the story's tragic events in motion.
Yuka Mochida: Satoshi's 14-year-old sister whose devotion to her brother leads her to bring him an umbrella, trapping her in the nightmare as well.
From the Remake Series
Seiko Shinohara: Naomi's cheerful and outspoken best friend who acts as a surrogate mother for her younger siblings.
Mayu Suzumoto: A drama club member whose sudden transfer prompts the fateful charm; she is affectionately called "Shige-nii" by Sakutaro Morishige.
Sakutaro Morishige: A calm, detached drama club member who is only truly close to Mayu Suzumoto.
Yui Shishido: The 23-year-old assistant homeroom teacher whose friendly, airheaded nature makes her popular with her students.
