TenPuru (subtitled "No one can live on loneliness") is a Japanese romantic comedy manga created by Kimitake Yoshioka.

The series began serialization in Kodansha's Comic DAYS online platform in September 2018 and, as of April 2025, has over 1.7 million copies in circulation.

TenPuru was adapted into a TV anime series that aired from July to September 2023.

The story follows Akemitsu Akagami, a young man determined to rid himself of worldly desires by joining a temple—only to discover it's now a convent filled with unique, quirky women, leading to endless comedic chaos and romantic entanglements.

TenPuru is the first original work by Kimitake Yoshioka.

The manga saw rapid popularity, with the first volume receiving an immediate reprint and surpassing expectations.

Yoshioka expressed his surprise at the overwhelming demand, calling it the fastest and largest reprint he had experienced in his career.

By November 2021, the manga's cumulative circulation exceeded 1 million, reaching 1.7 million by April 2025.

The main setting is Mikazuki Temple, a secluded Buddhist temple in modern Japan.

Mikazuki Temple, rumored to be a bastion against lustful desires, was once male-exclusive but is now a convent home to spirited young women.

The temple faces financial troubles, old customs, and serves as a quirky home to the heroines and protagonist.

Akemitsu Akagami hails from a notorious family known for their womanizing habits.

Determined to break free from this reputation and his inherited “curse,” Akemitsu decides to rid himself of earthly temptations.

After falling for the kind and clumsy Yuzuki Aoba, his desires surge, so he decides to join Mikazuki Temple based on his uncle’s suggestion.

But upon arrival, Akemitsu finds the temple isn’t men-only anymore—in fact, it’s now a strictly female convent, full of unpredictable young women including Yuzuki.

Even worse, his family is accused of stealing temple funds, and Akemitsu must now repay the debt through hard labor while navigating romantic and hilarious misunderstandings among the temple residents.

Mikazuki Temple: The main setting, now a convent administrated by the Aoba sisters and their companions.

Akagami Family: Infamous for their reputation as womanizers; the root of Akemitsu’s social struggles.

Bonnou: Japanese Buddhist term for sensual desires—this is a comedic centerpiece in both Akemitsu’s journey and the girls' teasing antics.

Erotic Queen Nurturing Plan: A ridiculous scheme concocted by Mia Christoph's family to create a queen-of-desire by forming relationships with over 100 lovers.

Manga

The manga "TenPuru" is collected in 13 volumes as of April 2025.

A special edition of Volume 5 included exclusive artwork from notable manga artists.

There are also guidebooks and special collaboration campaigns, such as a crossover with "Matchmaking of the Amagami Household" featuring limited edition goods.

Anime

The TV anime adaptation aired from July to September 2023, produced by studio Gekko.

Twelve episodes aired across Japanese TV networks (Tokyo MX, BS11, etc.), with Blu-ray releases featuring extra OVA episodes.

A promotional web anime crossover with "Rent-a-Girlfriend" was also released.

The anime boasted dynamic comedic animation and vibrant character interactions.

Director Kazuomi Koga led production, with Yoshioka’s original work as the foundation.

Character designs were crafted by Masato Katsumata, giving each heroine a unique, memorable look.

The production team utilized playful animation to highlight physical comedy, romantic hijinks, and the ever-present tension of Akemitsu’s “battle with desire.”

Opening Theme: "Bonnou☆Paradise" performed by Aimi.

Ending Themes: "Oidemase! Mikazuki Temple" by the main heroines' voice actors, with additional variation themes depending on the episode.

Songs capture the upbeat, mischievous spirit of life at the temple.

Fans praised TenPuru for its cast of charming and distinct heroines, sharp comedic timing, and witty dialogue.

Reviewers highlighted the rapid-fire jokes and unexpected “ecchi” situations that keep the story lively.

The manga and anime have both enjoyed strong sales, social media buzz, and enthusiastic fan response, ensuring TenPuru’s spot as a beloved temple harem rom-com in the genre.

Special promotions, guidebooks, and various media collaborations have fueled its ongoing popularity.

  • The manga also explores themes of self-acceptance and found family, with temple members supporting one another through personal and comedic struggles.
  • Akemitsu’s varied skill set, brought about by multiple part-time jobs, ends up making him indispensable to his new home and its residents.
  • Each heroine—from the earnest Yuzuki and the tsundere Tsukuyo to the deadpan Kurage and the foreign mischief-makers Mia Christoph and Kagura Baldwin—has become a favorite among fans, contributing to TenPuru’s memorable dynamic.
