Demon Lord, Retry! R is the second anime season and a story reboot adapting the manga series of the same name, which is itself a continuation of the original *Demon Lord, Retry!* light novel series written by Kurone Kanzaki.
Akira Oono, a stressed adult and game developer, finds himself transported into the world of the game he manages.
He now inhabits the body of his player character, the fearsome Demon Lord Hakuto Kunai.
Confused but incredibly powerful, Kunai rescues a mistreated village girl named Aku from a demon.
His minor actions are constantly misinterpreted by those around him as magnificent master plans, leading to a growing legend.
As he travels with Aku to find a way home, he uses his administrator-like powers to summon loyal subordinates and navigate a world of holy maidens, demons, and political intrigue.
Main Characters
The protagonist, a tall man with a stern face and slicked-back hair, housing the mind of the ordinary salaryman Akira Oono.
As the "Demon Lord," he possesses reality-warping "administrator" powers from the game, allowing him to summon followers and create objects.
While nearly invincible against physical attacks, he has a critical weakness to magic, which didn't exist in his original game world.
He struggles to maintain his intimidating persona while dealing with the everyday pressures of his new life.
A pure-hearted village girl who becomes Kunai's devoted follower, calling him "Lord Demon King."
Ostracized by her village for her heterochromatic eyes, she was offered as a sacrifice before being saved.
She lost her parents early in life and has no special abilities, yet she receives an unconditional fatherly affection from Kunai.
The Eight Venerable Subordinates
Kunai can summon his game's powerful "subordinates" into this world, where they gain consciousness and absolute loyalty.
A genius scientist and sadistic doctor capable of transforming her fingers into medical instruments called "God's Hand."
She is completely in love with Kunai after being praised by him just once.
Despite her immense skill, her terrifying smile and dissecting tendencies make even her allies wary.
A creative genius who is lazy and unmotivated in daily life but beloved by all firearms.
He can flawlessly execute any task but is openly a massive "siscon," deeply obsessing over his younger sister.
He is often the most grounded and reliable among Kunai's chaotic inner circle.
The spiritual leaders of the Sveltlight Holy Country. These sisters rule the land together, each with a wildly different personality.
The willful youngest saint, a magical prodigy who came from poverty.
Her attempt to defeat Kunai backfires immediately, and her arrogance fades as she becomes a constant, unwitting travel companion in his shadow.
She carries a deep sorrow from losing a childhood friend to the kingdom's racism.
The battle-loving second saint, nicknamed the "Post-Apocalyptic Maiden."
After witnessing the brutal fighting style of Kunai's alter ego, Zero Kirisame, she instantly falls in love, abandoning her post to search for her destined man.
The responsible eldest saint, exhausted from managing her bizarre sisters and a broken political system.
A single awkward meeting in a hot spring with Kunai convinces her that he is the fallen angel Lucifer, leading her to believe that his intentions are terrifyingly profound.
Kunai's secondary character, a hot-blooded biker-gang hero who wears a white "tokkofuku" coat and fights with his fists.
Transforming into him activates an "autopilot" mode, forcing Kunai to cringe internally as his body moves and speaks with unbreakable justice.
An adventurer duo who team up with Kunai.
Mikan is a long-suffering warrior woman, while the gorgeous "witch" Yukikaze is genuinely a boy, though no one believes it at first glance.
A half-demon girl abandoned by everyone, capable of seeing a person's true soul in color.
Saved by Zero's unpredictable kindness, she becomes one of the few who knows Kunai's true identity and earnestly follows him.
