A sniper who aspires to be a brave warrior of the sea!!
His father was a sniper in the Red-Haired Pirates, and he dreamed of becoming a brave warrior of the sea himself. He inherited his father's sniping skills and serves as the sniper of the crew. He is good at lying and bluffing, often telling tall tales, but this proves useful in combat. He is also quite skilled with his hands, excelling in inventing tools and weapons. Until Franky joined the crew, he was also in charge of repairing the ship.
Usopp is the third member to join Luffy D. Monkey's Straw Hat crew in the manga "ONE PIECE." He is the crew’s sniper, known for his long nose, exceptional aim, wild imagination, and incredible bravery that shines brightest in dire situations. While Usopp is often cowardly and resorts to lies and tricks to escape danger, he consistently finds courage when his friends need him most. His dream is to become a "brave warrior of the sea," inspired by his father, Yasopp of the Red-Haired Pirates. Usopp is also very handy, inventing gadgets and weapons for the crew. Over time, he grows from a village liar into a hero recognized by the world, earning the nickname "God Usopp" and a massive bounty.
His personality is cowardly & negative. He often feels like giving up when faced with dangerous adventures or strong enemies, but he summons his courage to confront them, gradually becoming a "brave warrior" step by step!

Despite this, he has a strong sense of responsibility toward his friends and ship, and when the moment calls for it, he pushes through his fear to show remarkable bravery.
He is imaginative, creative, and incredibly clever in battle, often making up stories that confuse his foes or buying time with his lies. Usopp is also very emotional, crying openly and easily. He respects brave and honorable people, especially those with strong convictions.
He idolizes his father, Yasopp, and wishes to be a great sea warrior like him. Usopp struggles with his own self-image, wanting to overcome his cowardliness and be someone his friends can count on.
## Background
Usopp was born in Syrup Village, East Blue, to Yasopp (who sailed to join Shanks’ crew) and his mother, Banchina. After his father left, Usopp’s mother fell very ill, and young Usopp would tell her "pirates are coming!" or "Dad will return!" to cheer her up, making lying a second nature to him. After his mother’s passing, Usopp became known in the village for his daily lies.
He formed the "Usopp Pirates" with three younger kids (Piiman, Tamanegi, and Ninjin), calling himself "Captain Usopp." He also became friends with Kaya, making her laugh with his stories to help her recover from her grief and illness.
## Abilities
### Sniping and Combat
Usopp is the Straw Hat Pirates’ sniper. He does not use guns but fights mainly with customized slingshots, firing a variety of unique ammunition. His aim is incredible, and he can shoot targets across enormous distances. Usopp creates many of his own weapon gadgets, such as the "Kabuto" and "Black Kabuto" slingshots.
His ammo ranges from explosive, smoke, and fire shots, to ones made from eggs, glue, or even horrible smells. After training on an island filled with dangerous plants, he learns to use "Pop Green" bullets—seeds that instantly grow wild plants, giving him even more battle options.
Usopp is also a talented inventor, mechanic, and artist, crafting weapons for other crew members, helping with ship repairs, and designing the Straw Hat flag.
### Endurance and Durability
Usopp has a surprising level of durability, surviving injuries that would take out regular people. Even after being battered and bruised, he can recover quickly and keep fighting.
### Haki
Usopp awakens Observation Haki during the Dressrosa arc. This allows him to sense distant presences and accurately snipe enemies he can't see. While not as skilled as some others in the crew, his range is exceptional—he can detect dangers kilometers away.

## Plot
### Syrup Village Arc: Meeting the Straw Hats
Usopp meets Luffy D. Monkey and his group in Syrup Village. Although he tries to scare them away with fake pirate warnings, they quickly catch on to his lies. Usopp learns Luffy knows his father, Yasopp, leading to the beginning of their friendship.
Usopp discovers a plot by Captain Kuro to assassinate Kaya and take her fortune. Even though no one believes him due to his lying, Usopp is determined to protect the village alone. With help from the Straw Hats, he fights against Kuro’s pirates and saves Kaya. Afterward, Usopp decides to leave the village to chase his dream. Luffy and the crew invite him aboard the Going Merry (a ship gifted by Kaya), making Usopp a member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
### Early Adventures: Proving Himself
As a Straw Hat, Usopp supports the crew with his shooting and creative inventions, defeating stronger foes through strategy, quick thinking, and luck. He battles the fishman Chu at Arlong Park and, alongside Chopper Tony Tony, defeats Mr. 4 & Miss Merry Christmas in Alabasta.
### Inspired by Giants
On Little Garden, Usopp meets giants Brogy and Dorry and witnesses their never-ending duel, which inspires him to be brave like the legendary warriors of Elbaf.
### Water 7 and Departure
After repeated fierce battles, Usopp starts feeling inferior due to the growing power gap between himself and stronger crewmates. In Water 7, a gang steals some of the crew’s treasure, and Usopp is battered in trying to take it back. Worse still, the ship (Going Merry) is deemed irreparable, and Luffy decides to get a new one. Usopp, deeply attached to Merry, quarrels with Luffy, leaves the crew, and challenges him to a duel. Though he loses, Luffy leaves the Merry to him.
Usopp later disguises himself as "Sogeking" (Sniper King) to secretly help the crew save Robin Nico. Together, they burn the World Government's flag, and Usopp’s masked alter-ego earns a 30 million berry bounty.
When the crew desperately tries to escape a naval attack, the "spirit" of the Going Merry miraculously appears and saves them—Usopp hears its message and helps the crew escape. After Merry’s farewell, Usopp returns to the crew, apologizes, and is welcomed back with open arms.
### Thriller Bark and New Strength
Usopp helps defeat the ghostly Perona, whose powers to turn people negative don’t affect Usopp because he’s already extremely pessimistic.
### Sabaody and Training
On Sabaody, the Straw Hats are separated. Usopp ends up on an island full of dangerous plants and is saved by Heracles. Usopp trains for two years, learning to use Pop Green and becoming much tougher.
### Return: New World and Growth
Usopp rejoins the crew as a braver, more confident fighter. He participates in major battles on Fish-Man Island and Punk Hazard, defeating strong enemies with his new skills.
### Dressrosa and Becoming "God Usopp"
In Dressrosa, Usopp befriends the dwarf tribe, pretending to be a legendary hero called "Usoland." Despite running away at first, he returns to defeat Sugar, saving all slaves and gaining hero status. His bounty skyrockets from 30 million to 200 million, and he is worshipped as "God Usopp" by many pirates.
He develops Observation Haki, allowing him to make near-impossible snipes, like shooting Sugar across the entire city from a distance.
### Zou, Wano, and Onward
Usopp assists in Wano’s resistance efforts, invents new gadgets, helps coordinate surprise attacks, and fights enemies far stronger than himself. In Wano, he is badly hurt but bravely continues fighting to protect his friends. After the arc, Usopp’s bounty jumps to 500 million berries, to his great shock.
### Egghead Arc
Usopp travels to Egghead Island and learns about the lost civilization from Vegapunk. He continues to support the Straw Hats with his gadgets and sharpshooting.
