Kaya

Kaya was born and raised in the countryside near Dauper Village, inside the Walls.

She lived a quiet rural life with her mother until the appearance of Titans within Wall Rose in the year 850.

During the Titan incursion of 850, Kaya’s home was attacked, and she watched in terror as her mother was devoured by a Titan right before her eyes.

Paralyzed by fear and unable to move, she was moments away from being eaten herself when Sasha Blouse arrived and saved her.

After this incident, Kaya was taken in by Sasha’s parents, Arthur Blouse and Lisa Blouse.

They treated her as part of their family, raising her at their home and stable business, the Blouse Stables.

By the year 854, Kaya worked at the Blouse Stables as part of the household.

She had grown into a kind but emotionally scarred girl, still carrying the trauma of her mother’s death and deeply admiring Sasha as her savior.

Kaya is fundamentally kind, earnest, and eager to connect with others, even those from former enemy nations.

However, beneath that warmth, she harbors intense grief and anger tied to the loss of her mother and the death of Sasha Blouse.

She shows a strong sense of loyalty and gratitude, especially toward Sasha and the Blouse family.

At the same time, she struggles with feelings of vengeance, particularly when confronted with the person responsible for Sasha’s death.

Kaya is also notably open-minded for someone raised within the Walls.

Despite learning that Falco Grice and Gabi Braun are from Marley, a nation long treated as an enemy, she initially chooses to interact with them kindly and without prejudice.

Kaya’s life is defined by the moment Sasha Blouse saved her from a Titan.

From that day, Sasha became her hero and a symbol of the selfless bravery she aspired to.

After being adopted by Arthur Blouse and Lisa Blouse, Kaya grew up surrounded by their warmth and humility.

Sasha’s death later becomes a crushing emotional blow for Kaya.

Her grief over losing her savior fuels an intense hatred for Sasha’s killer, Gabi Braun.

In 854, Kaya meets Falco Grice and Gabi Braun after the two escape custody and end up at the Blouse Stables.

Even after finding out they are from Marley, she treats them with kindness, answering their questions and showing them rural life inside the Walls.

Kaya’s open attitude contrasts with the long history of hatred between the people of Paradis Island and Marley.

She is willing to talk, learn, and even joke with them, showing that she does not automatically judge them for their origins.

However, everything changes when Kaya discovers the truth: Gabi Braun is the one who killed Sasha Blouse.

Overcome with rage and grief, Kaya lashes out and attempts to attack Gabi in a fit of vengeance but is stopped by Mikasa Ackerman before she can harm her.

Unlike Arthur Blouse and Lisa Blouse, who choose to respond with understanding and forgiveness when they learn that Gabi killed Sasha, Kaya cannot let go of her hatred so easily.

She continues to harbor murderous intentions toward Gabi, viewing her as the direct cause of her beloved sister-figure’s death.

Kaya’s internal conflict embodies the cycle of hatred between Eldians on Paradis and those in Marley.

She is torn between the compassion she showed at first and the intense urge to make Gabi pay for Sasha’s death.

This struggle continues until the Marleyan assault on Paradis, when Kaya herself is nearly devoured by a Titan.

In a powerful reversal of their earlier roles, Gabi Braun saves Kaya’s life, risking her own safety in the process.

Witnessing Gabi’s genuine courage and humanity forces Kaya to confront her own hatred.

She realizes that Gabi, like Sasha, is capable of selfless action and is not just “the enemy” or “Sasha’s killer.”

After being saved by Gabi during the Marley attack, Kaya’s perspective shifts dramatically.

The girl she once wanted to kill for revenge has now become her savior, mirroring how Sasha once saved Kaya.

Later, when Gabi is suspected by soldiers of being a Marleyan infiltrator, Kaya takes a stand and steps forward to protect her.

She defends Gabi, arguing against the suspicion and showing that her feelings have changed from hatred to empathy.

Through this, Kaya and Gabi ultimately reconcile.

Kaya lets go of her desire for revenge and comes to see Gabi as a friend rather than an enemy, symbolizing a small but meaningful break in the long chain of violence between their peoples.
