Character Setting

Edit

Miranda Wallace is a female student of the Earlshide Knight Officer Academy in *Wise Man’s Grandchild*, known for rising from a proud honor student who looked down on magic academy students to one of the kingdom’s most capable young knights.

Miranda Wallace is a student of the Earlshide Knight Officer Academy and is in the same year as Shin Wolford and his circle.

Although she entered the academy with the second-highest grades despite being a woman in a male-dominated course, she initially shared the other knight academy students’ contempt for the magic academy students.

That attitude changed during joint training with Shin and his companions.

There, she realized how arrogant and complacent she and her peers had been, and reconciliation followed.

Afterward, she became friends with Maria von Messina, and the two were often seen together.

The two also shared a humorous point in common: the male officer academy students were all infatuated with Sicily von Claude, which meant neither Miranda nor Maria was viewed as a romantic interest.

As she became more involved with Shin’s group, Miranda received a Vibration Sword and eventually became one of its few skilled users.

When advancing into her second year, she achieved first place in her grade and, before the final battle against the devils, served as an instructor to the armies of various nations because of her rare proficiency with the weapon.

Early Personality and Growth

Miranda began as a high-performing but prideful knight academy student.

Her experience in the joint training exercise forced her to confront her own limitations and helped her mature quickly.

After becoming close to Maria, Miranda grew frustrated by the gap in ability between them.

Rather than sulk, she resolved to become strong enough to stand beside Maria as an equal friend.

Training and Equipment

To improve herself, Miranda bought an Exchange Sword and Jet Boots with her own money.

Because she could not cover the full cost, she borrowed the remaining amount from Maria.

To repay that debt, she threw herself into part-time monster hunting jobs that also doubled as combat training.

This period highlighted her determination, practicality, and refusal to rely on others more than necessary.

Participation in the Demon Territory Operation

During the operation to capture the demon territory, Miranda took part as a mobilized student soldier in the Earlshide army.

In the battle against a disaster-class rhinoceros-type monster, she stood on the front line and opened a path forward.

At that time, she unveiled a technique called Jump Thrust.

It had originally been something Shin Wolford came up with as a joke and that Maria later imitated.

Miranda then improvised a brutal and effective variation in the middle of combat.

After impaling the target, she removed the blade and followed up with a jet-boot-powered kick, turning the move into a formal tactic later adopted by the knights.

Because of this achievement, she came to be regarded as a dependable combat asset.

She was even put in the position of restraining and admonishing the Earlshide military escorts who had accompanied the students.

However, during the operation, she encountered a devil that had broken through the encirclement.

The situation was only contained because the entire mage corps concentrated their fire, causing the devil to avoid battle.

In the manga version, Miranda is depicted as landing a surprise attack on the devil while acting as the rear guard for a coordinated assault by the escorts.

Even so, she was left shaken and lost her fighting spirit after witnessing the overwhelming difference in power.

She survived only because the devil prioritized the invasion of the royal capital.

That brush with death further underscored both her courage and her humanity.

Receiving the Vibration Sword

After the operation settled down, Miranda was invited to Shin’s birthday party.

There, she received a Vibration Sword, a weapon that many knights had avoided out of pride in traditional knightly values.

By accepting it, she became one of the few people able to wield it effectively.

She also received instruction from Michel Colling, the Sword Saint and the master of Shin’s swordsmanship.

Top Student and Military Instructor

When the students advanced into their second year, Miranda became the top student of her grade.

She was only the second female student in the academy’s history to achieve that distinction.

Before the final battle against the devils, the knight order finally decided to adopt the Vibration Sword.

As a result, Miranda, Shin, and Tony Freyd were appointed as instructors to teach its use to the armies of various countries.

For Miranda, this was an intimidating role.

As only a student, she felt deeply uncomfortable instructing veteran knights who officially outranked her.

Final Battle Against the Devils

In the final confrontation with the devils, Miranda accompanied the Ultimate Magicians at Maria’s urging.

She fought in coordination with Maria during the battle.

In the showdown with Oliver Schtrom, she also supported Shin by borrowing an offensive magic tool from Yuri Carlton.

Her efforts helped contribute to the victory.

After Graduation

After graduating from the academy, Miranda joined the knight order.

Because her actions in the war against the Devil King had, even unintentionally, helped preserve the honor of the knights, she was assigned to serve as a guard for the pregnant Saint, Sicily von Claude.

Miranda is hardworking, disciplined, and intensely self-aware.

Once she recognizes a weakness in herself, she does not make excuses and instead pushes herself to improve.

Her early arrogance gives way to humility and loyalty.

That change makes her one of the more satisfying growth-oriented characters in the series.

She also has a comedic, more vulnerable side in matters of romance.

Miranda worries that she cannot find a boyfriend and that the only men who approach her are worthless.

When she witnessed Maria and Alice Corner each going on dates with men while she still had no boyfriend, she was driven to despair.

To make matters worse for her, both Maria and Alice later got married, leaving Miranda thoroughly behind in that department.

In the sequel *The Devil King's Successor*, she has not yet appeared.

Maria von Messina

Maria becomes Miranda’s close friend after the conflict between the two academies is resolved.

Their friendship is one of Miranda’s most important personal bonds.

Miranda is inspired by Maria’s strength and at one point feels inadequate compared with her.

That insecurity becomes motivation for self-improvement rather than resentment.

Shin Wolford

Shin plays a major role in Miranda’s development, even if indirectly.

Her exposure to him and his group helps break down her prejudice, and she later benefits from his inventions, ideas, and combat circle.

One of her signature combat moments even comes from a technique Shin had originally invented jokingly.

She then transformed it into something much harsher and more practical for real battlefield use.

Sicily von Claude

Miranda’s connection to Sicily is partly humorous and partly professional.

Because nearly all the male officer academy students were captivated by Sicily, Miranda was effectively ignored as a romantic prospect.

Later, after joining the knight order, Miranda became one of Sicily’s guards during Sicily’s pregnancy.

That role reflects the trust placed in Miranda’s reliability and combat ability.

Miranda is a highly capable knight-type fighter with exceptional drive and battlefield adaptability.

She does not merely learn techniques; she modifies them on the spot in ways that make them deadlier and more practical.

Her use of the Exchange Sword and Jet Boots shows her commitment to mobility-based melee combat.

Her later mastery of the Vibration Sword places her among a very small number of effective users.

She is also notable for combining courage with tactical instinct.

Even when facing enemies far beyond her level, she continues to act decisively and support her allies.

In the original novel’s description, Miranda is a woman with short black hair.

Shin’s impression of her is that her arms are sinewy and that her overall physique feels firm and tough.

In the light novel illustrations, especially on the cover of volume 2, she is depicted with a ponytail and sharp eyes.

She wears the knight academy uniform with armor layered over it, and the lower half of her outfit is skintight like tights.

Both the manga and anime generally follow the light novel version of her design.

However, in the manga, as she became a semi-regular character, her design changed noticeably.

Her ponytail became much larger and more voluminous.

Her eyes also softened, her face gained more detail, and she was drawn as more conventionally beautiful.

Her figure likewise became more curvaceous.

The manga increasingly emphasized her fuller lower body in its presentation.

Miranda Wallace is voiced by Nana Yoshimi.
