Yu Innami is outwardly cheerful, passionate, and relentlessly positive despite his chronic illness.

When dealing with students, he embodies the classic “hot-blooded teacher” who believes in their potential and pushes them forward.

He carries a strong inner resolve to protect the future and dignity of demon children, and this conviction is what keeps him fighting on the front lines.

Even when he is gravely injured, he prioritizes his comrades and students before himself.

Yu has extremely weak bronchial tubes, which causes him to constantly cough and even spit blood.

This gives him the pallor and aura of a seriously ill patient, and his body’s stamina is notably low.

In terms of pure stats, his endurance is poor, he is slow on his feet, and he cannot withstand sustained damage in battle.

Because of this, he relies heavily on his blood-based abilities and tactical cooperation with allies rather than raw physical performance.

At Rasetsu Academy, Yu serves as a part-time instructor while also operating as a member of the academy’s combat unit.

In the classroom, he is energetic and earnest, winning over students with his enthusiasm despite his sickly appearance.

During the snowy mountain training arc, Yu takes part as an assassin-like obstacle against the trainees.

At the request of Naito Mudano, he joins forces with Kaoru Namikido to hinder the climb of Shiki Ichinose and the others, becoming one of the main challenges they must overcome.

After the training concludes, Kaoru is punished with 1,000 squats as part of his regimen.

Yu, in his earnest teacher mode, tries to voluntarily train alongside Kaoru to encourage him, but Kaoru finds him a nuisance and refuses his offer, highlighting their slightly comedic dynamic.

Defense of Suginami Ward

In the Koenji arc, while Shiki Ichinose and his allies are heading toward the Kegon Falls Ruins Research Institute, Suginami Ward comes under attack.

Yu participates in this defense operation and fights as part of the response force.

Following instructions from Masumi Yodogawa, Yu evacuates with the critically injured Kaoru Namikido, carrying him to safety under the protection of Kyoya Oiranzaka.

This shows Yu’s reliability under pressure, prioritizing the rescue and survival of allies.

Assignment Under Naito Mudano

After Kaoru’s treatment and recovery, Yu also returns to active duty.

He is then placed under Naito Mudano’s command and tasked with the mission to subjugate Ukyo, one of their powerful adversaries.

To allow Naito Mudano and Taiga to focus on tracking down Ukyo, Yu and Kaoru Namikido take on the dangerous job of stalling Tsukuyomi Momoka and Osuke Momokado.

Yu engages Tsukuyomi Momoka in battle and manages to fight on equal footing, showcasing the high potential of his blood-based powers despite his physical frailty.

Injury and Temporary Withdrawal

During this clash, a subordinate of Ukyo suddenly intervenes and carries out a self-destruct attack.

Yu is caught in this explosion and suffers severe injuries, forcing him to leave the front lines.

He is retrieved and taken away by Shion, effectively pulling him out of combat for a time.

After the conflict is resolved, Yu eventually recovers and makes his return.

Following his recovery from his battle injuries, Yu regains enough strength to rejoin major gatherings.

He participates in a meeting concerning the punishment of Juji Yusurube, indicating that he is trusted enough to be involved in important internal decisions.

This shows that his role is not limited to frontline combat and teaching.

He is also present when it comes to the moral and disciplinary issues surrounding their organization.

Yu’s special ability is known as his Blood Corrosion Release, titled “Futamata no Hokorobi” (literally “Twin-Branch Fraying”).

This technique manifests when he opens zippers attached to both of his arms, intentionally causing himself to bleed.

By doing so, he summons two boy-like entities along with a paper sliding door (shoji).

From beyond the door that the boys open, a gigantic arm emerges, and Yu can activate different abilities from its right and left sides.

The two boys themselves can also be directed in combat.

The boy who wields the blade used to open the shoji can be deployed as an attacker, while the boy in charge of summoning the shoji can be positioned as a shield, creating a flexible offense-and-defense setup.

Right Arm: Shockwave Barrage

The right arm ability allows Yu to fire powerful shockwaves with a motion similar to snapping his fingers.

These shockwaves have enough destructive power to gouge out large portions of forest, making them devastating on open terrain.

However, the technique requires noticeable preparation time.

Because of this, the very first shot rarely hits its target, giving opponents a window to dodge.

By using his fourth and fifth fingers to snap, Yu can focus the technique into a more pinpoint, precise strike.

In this configuration, the power is reduced compared to the full-force version, but it is still strong enough to inflict significant damage even on the tough bodies of demons.

Left Arm: Torii of the Blood River

The left arm ability creates a torii gate through which a river of blood flows, capturing enemies who are within its boundary.

Anyone trapped inside this blood-filled torii has their movements sealed and is effectively immobilized.

While the target is restrained by the torii, Yu is still free to attack with the right arm’s shockwaves.

This combination of lockdown and long-range power makes his kit extremely threatening if he can set it up, compensating for his lack of raw physical strength.
