Sakurai Honami

Sakurai Honami belongs to the “Sakura” series of adjusted magicians, whose magical aptitude was enhanced through genetic manipulation.

She is explicitly identified as a first-generation model of this series, produced near the end of the Twenty Years’ War.

By the time of her main appearance in the year 2092, she is 30 years old.

Her creation is believed to date to the late phase of the Twenty Years’ War, which concluded in 2065.

Although she is 30 at that time, she appears strikingly youthful.

From Miyuki Shiba’s perspective three years prior, she looked like she was just over 20 at most, yet still clearly older than Shiba Miya and thus “the older sister” when the two women were together.

She has an attractive, gentle smile and a caring, nurturing personality.

She also owns and uses a bracelet-type CAD (Casting Assistant Device) to perform her magic.

Honami is portrayed as a warm, considerate woman who genuinely enjoys looking after others.

This tendency naturally leads her into a role that blends bodyguard duties with everyday household support.

Her youthful looks make her seem much younger than her actual age.

Even so, when standing beside Shiba Miya, she gives off the impression of being the “older woman,” reinforcing her guardian and big-sister image.

Her smile is often described as cute and endearing.

Combined with her gentle demeanor, this makes her easy to trust and a comforting presence in the household.

As a product of the “Sakura” series of adjusted magicians, Honami’s genetic structure was engineered specifically to enhance magical aptitude.

Her specialization is particularly notable in defensive magic, especially barrier-type spells.

She carries a bracelet-type CAD that serves as her primary magical interface.

Through this CAD she can quickly deploy powerful defensive barriers, which is central to her role as a professional bodyguard.

Despite these abilities, her defenses have limits, especially against large-scale, high-caliber attacks.

This limitation becomes tragically important during the Okinawa invasion by the Greater Asian Alliance.

From before her birth, Sakurai Honami had already been purchased and effectively bound to the Yotsuba family, specifically under the authority of Maya Yotsuba.

This arrangement places her in the orbit of the Shiba branch of the family from the beginning.

She later joins the Metropolitan Police Department, working in a security and protection capacity equivalent to an SP (Security Police bodyguard).

Her duties there revolve around high-risk protection assignments that suit her combat and defensive abilities.

Around the year 2087, she transitions from police work to become the nighttime Guardian for Shiba Miya.

At the same time, she takes on various household tasks, managing daily life aspects for the Shiba siblings and acting as their live-in caretaker.

To Tatsuya Shiba and Miyuki Shiba, she is more than a professional protector.

They look up to her as an older-sister figure, and she becomes a beloved part of their small family unit.

Honami’s most defining narrative moment occurs during the invasion of Okinawa by the Greater Asian Alliance.

During this large-scale conflict, she is responsible for protecting Tatsuya, whose body at that time lacks sufficient resistance to heavy naval bombardment.

When naval gunfire threatens Tatsuya, Honami repeatedly deploys barrier magic to shield him.

The stress of blocking such overwhelming firepower far exceeds the sustainable limits of her magic and her body.

She ultimately dies from the overuse of her barrier magic while continuing to protect Tatsuya.

Her sacrifice is portrayed as both heroic and deeply tragic.

For Tatsuya, who has already lost most of his emotional spectrum due to earlier trauma and his innate condition, Honami’s death leaves an indelible scar.

Even with his diminished capacity for feeling, her loss becomes one of the few events that still haunt him and shapes his internal world long afterward.

Relationship with Maya Yotsuba

Honami is bound to the Yotsuba family from before birth, and thus falls under the control and authority of Maya Yotsuba.

This connection defines her status as a specially owned adjusted magician, rather than as a fully independent individual.

Relationship with Shiba Miya

Shiba Miya is the one she directly serves as a Guardian in the later stage of her life.

Honami operates as Miya’s nightly bodyguard while also helping maintain the household.

When standing beside Miya, Honami tends to look like the “older sister” due to her mature aura despite her youthful appearance.
