Edit

Hans Axel von Fersen is a proud nobleman from Sweden and one of the main characters in Lady Oscar: The Rose of Versailles. He is known for his striking looks and sharp mind. As a close friend to Oscar François de Jarjayes, he faces many trials alongside him. However, Fersen is slow to notice Oscar’s true feelings and even Oscar’s true identity until a critical moment. His story is full of hidden love, heartbreak, loyalty, and tragedy as he tries to protect Marie Antoinette and faces tough choices during the French Revolution. Fersen’s path leads from loyal friend to cold, vengeful ruler, ending in a heartbreaking death at the hands of a furious mob.

Hans Axel von Fersen stands out for his great beauty and noble presence. As a young nobleman, he has a dignified and elegant look. These features make him popular among both the upper and lower classes.

Fersen is intelligent and thoughtful. He deeply cares about his friends, especially Oscar François de Jarjayes. Fersen carries a warm heart but often keeps his true feelings hidden, even from himself. Over time, his grief can turn him cold and harsh.

Fersen admires Oscar and shares a deep friendship with him. He is also devoted to Marie Antoinette, feeling her pain and trouble very strongly. His loyalty puts him in difficult positions, testing his sense of duty and love.

Friendship and Hidden Feelings

Hans Axel von Fersen shines as a proud Swedish nobleman with sharp intelligence and good looks. He greatly admires his close friend Oscar François de Jarjayes. For a long time, he does not realize that Oscar, who is seen as his friend, is actually a woman. He also remains unaware of his own deeper feelings towards Oscar.

The Night of Revelation

Everything changes during a grand ball. Oscar disguises herself to try and win the heart of Axel’s other friend, Marie Antoinette. Fersen dances with Oscar and finally recognizes her true emotions. This moment opens his eyes, leading to a turning point in their relationship. After this, they begin to grow apart.

The American War and Return

Feeling Marie Antoinette’s pain as she faces damaging gossip, Fersen decides to leave France and join the American Revolutionary War, hoping a break would help. But when he returns, he wants to be her support and restore their previous bond.

French Revolution and Bold Choices

When the French Revolution breaks out, Fersen’s difficult choice stands out. His family objects, but Fersen decides he has no duty to serve the fallen royal family in another country. He gives up his future in Sweden and returns to France, risking everything.

During the royal family’s attempt to escape from the Tuileries Palace at Varennes, Fersen does everything he can to save them. In the end, fate is harsh, and Marie Antoinette is lost to him forever.

Fall into Hatred and Tragic End

After Marie Antoinette’s death, Fersen is overwhelmed with sadness. This sadness soon changes to deep anger toward the people. He becomes a cold ruler, using harsh force to rule. The people grow angry and rebel against his rule.

In 1810, the crowds attack Fersen brutally. He is killed in terrible violence. His body is humiliated even after death, stripped of his clothes and thrown into a ditch. In the end, his innocence is proven, and his sister makes sure he is finally given a proper burial. This is the sad and tragic end of Hans Axel von Fersen.

Fersen’s death in real history was surrounded by false rumors. Some said he murdered the Crown Prince, which led to his murder by a mob. The real killer was never proven, and his good name was restored after his death.
