When Sword Art Online was finally cleared, Kayaba committed suicide, ending his life on his own terms.

Rinko was then arrested and faced prosecution as a potential co-conspirator in the SAO mass murder case.

Concerned for Kazuto and persuaded by Asuna’s plea for help, Rinko chose to return to Japan.

She used her status and connections to travel with Asuna to the Ocean Turtle, the offshore base where Rath conducted its secret research.

On the Ocean Turtle, Rinko was drawn into a chaotic sequence of events when Gabriel Miller and his mercenary team attacked the facility.

Against her initial intentions, she became deeply entangled in the Underworld incident and in the fight to protect both the virtual inhabitants and the real-world infrastructure.

After the events of the Alfheim Online incident, Rinko met Kazuto Kirigaya in person.

During this meeting, Kazuto told her that he had encountered a digital ghost of Akihiko Kayaba inside Alfheim Online.

He explained that Kayaba had entrusted him with a program known as “The Seed,” a foundational VR package capable of easily creating and hosting full-dive virtual worlds.
