Character Setting

Edit

Mao is a psychic girl with telekinetic powers, summoned from the future just like Hina and Anzu. Her story is full of dramatic twists, like surviving on a deserted island and using her abilities to make a raft. She can be very dependent on others, and her journey involves searching for friends, building unusual relationships, and even becoming a TV star. Mao’s actions play a big part in the fate of the world, making her a unique and important character.

Mao is described as an ordinary-looking girl who blends in with others. She made dolls that look like Hina and Anzu while alone, showing her creative side.

Mao is the most typical "normal girl" among the three psychics, but she has a strong need to depend on others. She quickly becomes very attached to people who are nice to her. When Mao is lonely, she makes dolls of her friends and talks to them, even answering for them like a ventriloquist. She has a habit of treating people as her best friends very quickly and sends them lots of messages. This can sometimes make her a bit overwhelming to those around her.

Mao is a psychic created by the "Superhuman Society" in the future Japan. She was summoned to the present time by Kei Ikaruga, just like Hina and Anzu. The story later reveals that Mao’s clone was sent back in time, and she played a part in the formation of the Superhuman Society, which caused major troubles in the world.

Mao has telekinetic powers, about equal to Anzu's. She can use her psychic skills to move objects and create things, like when she built a raft out of trees to escape a deserted island. She has also used dolls as weapons in battle, holding them like tonfas.

Mao knows Hina and Anzu from the future. She becomes close to Atsushi Yamamoto after meeting him in China and works with him in Japan. Mao becomes obsessed with Hitomi Mishima after asking her for advice, sending her 293 messages and being called the "top runner in the world of dependence." After surviving alone for a long time, she keeps talking to her friend-dolls out of habit. Later, she feels disappointed in Kei Ikaruga after learning that Kei had four children while Mao was struggling.

Summoned to a Desert Island

After being summoned by Kei Ikaruga, Mao accidentally ends up on a deserted island in Southeast Asia and loses her teleport device.

She survives alone, even having to use her own psychic powers to make a raft from trees and escape.

Life in China

Mao lands in China, where she becomes a martial arts poster girl, pretending to be a "Qigong Girl."

There, she meets Atsushi Yamamoto from "Central Park," learns about Hina’s location, and decides to travel to Japan.

Coming to Japan and New Life

Mao moves to Japan with Atsushi and another person from the dojo.

She continues to use her dolls for company, even using them as weapons during fights.

Along with Hitomi Mishima’s help, Mao and her friends start a superhuman fitness business, which becomes a big success.

Mao starts working as a TV reporter to promote their gym, and later appears in TV dramas as an actress, eventually making it to Hollywood.

Dependence and Friendship

After getting advice from Hitomi, Mao sees her as her best friend and sends her hundreds of messages.

When she can’t talk to Hitomi, she speaks to an imaginary version of her, which makes people around her uncomfortable.

This heavy dependence sometimes causes stress for Hitomi.

Reunion and Disappointment

With Hitomi’s help, Mao finally meets Kei Ikaruga again on live TV.

She becomes disappointed to see that Kei had four kids while Mao was struggling during hard times.

Secret Origins

In Volume 15, it's revealed that Mao was actually the first of the three psychics to be born.

She is a clone who time-traveled from the future.

Mao played a direct role in establishing the “Superhuman Society,” making her partly responsible for the chaos in her world.

Music in NEOCENTRAL PARK

Mao uses her psychic skill to perfectly play the drums on stage by copying Kiyomaru’s movements.

  • Mao made dolls of Hina and Anzu for comfort on the deserted island.
  • She was called the “top runner in the world of dependence” for sending so many messages to Hitomi Mishima.
  • Even after reuniting with her friends, Mao keeps talking to her dolls out of habit.
  • She made it as far as Hollywood as an actress after starting as a gym promoter.
  • She is revealed later as the origin of much of the story’s conflict due to her past actions.

  • "Even when I was alone, I had my friends… even if they were just dolls."
  • "I sent you 293 messages because you’re my best friend, right?"

None.
