D is the protagonist of *VAMPIRE HUNTER D*. He makes his living as a vampire hunter and is a master swordsman who travels astride a cyborg horse. He is calm and composed, rarely shaken, and possesses an extremely stoic personality. However, he is by no means utterly ruthless or devoid of emotion.
