Agu is a young male hobgoblin from the Goblin Geeg Tribe in the Great Forest of Tob, later becoming a resident and defender of Carne Village after being rescued from the forces of the so‑called Eastern Giant.
Agu is the fourth son of A, the chief of the Geeg Tribe that once lived in the Great Forest of Tob.
Although he was originally believed to be a goblin, various characters such as Nfirea Bareare and the goblins of Carne Village suspect that he is actually a hobgoblin changeling raised among goblins.
Unlike the other goblins of his tribe, Agu displays clearly higher intelligence and unusually fluent speech.
This difference led him for a long time to doubt his own origins, wondering if he might be from another tribe altogether.
Within his home tribe, most goblins spoke in broken phrases and single words, so Agu often found himself misunderstood or unable to communicate smoothly.
This communication gap isolated him somewhat, even though he was the chief’s son.
As the son of a tribal chief, Agu is fundamentally serious and earnest.
His way of speaking is a bit stiff and formal for a goblin, which emphasizes his maturity and intelligence.
When he first met Enri Emmot and her group, Agu could not understand why a powerful goblin army would serve a human village girl.
This confusion made him suspicious and somewhat rebellious in attitude toward Enri’s authority.
However, his opinion changed drastically when he witnessed Enri subdue a group of ogres with a single forceful command.
Seeing the ogres kneel before her convinced Agu of her genuine strength as a leader, and he accepted her position wholeheartedly.
Agu is also deeply loyal and dutiful.
During a later attack on Carne Village, he was eager to repay the debt he owed to Enri and Nfirea for saving his life, and he threw himself into the tasks entrusted to him, determined to carry them out perfectly.
Agu is described as a child hobgoblin, even smaller than ordinary goblins, who are themselves shorter and more slender than humans.
Despite his current small size, the nature of hobgoblins—physically superior to normal goblins—suggests that he may eventually grow to around the size of an adult human.
His appearance marks him as young and not yet fully developed, but his eyes and expression convey the sharpness and awareness of someone much older.
This contrast between his small body and mature demeanor helps make him stand out among other goblins.
The Shift in Power in the Great Forest of Tob
The Great Forest of Tob undergoes a radical change when Hamsuke, one of the three great beings who ruled the forest’s south, leaves the area.
At the same time, the so‑called “Building of Ruin” appears—this is the fake Nazarick being constructed by Aura Bella Fiora, which throws the forest’s balance of power into chaos.
The remaining two of the forest’s “Big Three,” the Eastern Giant and the Western Great Serpent, form an alliance.
They begin gathering forces to attack the Building of Ruin, recruiting or coercing various forest tribes into their army.
Flight from the Eastern Giant
Agu’s Geeg Tribe is approached as disposable cannon fodder by the Eastern Giant’s faction.
Realizing that the Eastern Giant sees goblin lives as worthless tools to be used up, the tribe decides to flee rather than submit.
During this desperate escape, Agu is separated from his companions.
Alone and badly wounded, he is hunted by barghests, ghostly hellhounds serving the Eastern Giant.
Rescue by Enri and Nfirea
While Enri Emmot, Nfirea Bareare, and their allies are gathering herbs in the forest, they come across Agu being tormented by the barghests.
They intervene and rescue him from the brink of death.
Nfirea uses a newly completed healing potion to restore Agu’s life, leaving a strong impression on him.
Grateful and still trying to understand these powerful yet kind humans, Agu accompanies them back toward Carne Village.
At first, Agu doubts the idea of a non‑combat‑specialized human like Enri acting as a “chieftain” over such a formidable goblin host.
His skepticism vanishes when he sees an ogre bowing obediently before Enri after a single sharp order, cementing his respect for her leadership.
Defense of Carne Village
After being reunited with surviving members of the Geeg Tribe who are found within the forest, Agu and his fellow refugees join Carne Village.
When the Eastern Giant’s forces—specifically a troll zombie and its minions, animated as punishment for defying Ainz Ooal Gown—march on Carne Village, Agu takes up arms to defend his new home.
In cooperation with the village vigilante corps and the summoned goblin army, Agu helps repel the attackers.
This battle not only secures Carne Village’s safety but also marks Agu’s full transition from forest refugee to village defender.
Following the conflict, Agu settles in Carne Village as one of its residents.
He lives alongside the villagers and goblins, contributing as a competent and trustworthy member of the community.
Escort Duty During the Kingdom Army’s Advance
Several months later, Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself leads a royal army toward Carne Village.
In response, the villagers evacuate into the Great Forest of Tob to avoid direct conflict and destruction.
During this tense episode, Agu is entrusted with guiding and leading the evacuees through the forest.
His knowledge of the terrain and his forest upbringing make him an ideal pathfinder and protector for the fleeing villagers.
In the anime adaptation, Agu is voiced by Ikuna Kowakawa.
Her performance emphasizes his youth, intelligence, and the mix of insecurity and pride that defines his personality.
