Geshu Lin

Geshu Lin is a Resonator, said to possess a powerful Resonance Ability, and his Tacet Mark is located on his neck. His weapon can briefly be found in game, described as a massive greatsword with black chains wrapped around the blade and hilt, with swirling patterns resembling rippling waves. Dark flames pulse from his weapon.

Compared to all previous Generals of the Midnight Rangers, Geshu Lin is rumored to have took to the battlefield, leading the charge rather than commanding his troops from behind. Those under his command were said to be very disciplined, though it is unknown if this is out of fear or respect.

The Phantom projected of Geshu Lin showed him to differ greatly from his current successor, Jiyan, as someone who was determined to push forward in battle no matter how many lives it would cost, believing that surrender would only dishonor those who already sacrificed their lives in battle. Despite this, the phantom repeatedly compares Jiyan to himself, though it is unknown if this was due to Jiyan's own doubts about himself.

In the past, before becoming a Resonator, Geshu Lin was still a ruthless individual toward his enemies, driven to destroy every Tacet Discord in Jinzhou, fully willing to kill every ISA agent that stood his way, and fearless towards his own demise. However, he was still motivated by just causes, being furious at the ISA conforming to corrupt officials while Jinzhou was in chaos and unwilling to stand by while Tacet Discord slaughtered his people.

Geshu Lin held the position of the General of the Midnight Rangers before the current General Jiyan, until his disappearance during the Battle Beneath the Crescent. According to a storyteller's recount of the event, Geshu Lin wielded a sword blazing with black flames, and rose to confront the threat posed by the Threnodian of War, Ovathrax. Sacrificing his body to these flames in exchange for power, he charged the Threnodian, and was never seen again.

Blamed for massive losses that occurred under his command, especially due to his orders for his soldiers not to retreat, Geshu Lin has gained a notorious reputation in Huanglong. However, whether he is an unforgivable criminal seems to be debated by the citizens, with some arguing that Jinzhou may have fallen if his soldiers did not hold the defenses.

Present

When Ovathrax revives again during Main Quest Grand Warstorm in Chapter I: Act VI, Geshu Lin appears as a Phantom to Jiyan during the rain, confronting him over his ideals as well as his ability to lead.

Qiuyuan recalls his first meeting with Geshu during Main Quest A Stranger in a Strange Land in Chapter II: Act Segue. During his time as a squad captain and before becoming a Resonator, Geshu Lin was falsely charged of conspiring with Tacet Discords by the Censorate, with the Internal Security Agency sending agent Qiuyuan to execute him. Confronting him after a brief battle in Jinzhou, Qiuyuan informs him of the situation, with Geshu outraged that the ISA would devote manpower to his death while the border was still in chaos. With these circumstances, Geshu believed it was better he just die, swearing that if Qiuyuan did not kill him there, he would wipe out every one of the ISA's agents in his way along with every Tacet Discord in the land. Qiuyuan then revealed that Grandmaster Liang had vouched for the squad captain, along with admitting his own suspicions after reading the man's case files, ultimately concluding the Censors had failed their duty and had convicted an ordinary man. Geshu admitted his resolve to keep fighting, not willing to let the slaughter of their people to continue. Satisfied with the answer, Qiuyuan advised Geshu to harden his restraint, seeing the man possessing incredible might but such power capable killing himself in the future if left uncheck. Departing with the belief that the man will leave a legacy as long as his resolve to protect Jinzhou stands firm, Geshu finally collapsed from exhaustion.

According to Qiuyuan, Geshu had eventually succumbed to Ovathrax's influence and fallen into the Thernodian's abyss during the Battle Beneath the Crescent. Blaming himself for his fate and the lives lost in the battle, Qiuyuan swears to find Geshu one day to grant him a swift end.
