Succulent is a male magic warrior and member of the criminal group Eight Fingers, serving as one of the Six Arms, an elite combat unit that controls the underworld of the Re-Estize Kingdom, famed and mocked alike under the alias “Phantom Demon.”
Succulent belongs to the security division of Eight Fingers and is officially counted among its strongest combatants as one of the Six Arms.
Despite this lofty title, he is widely regarded within the group as the weakest of the six.
True to his epithet “Phantom Demon,” he combines illusion magic with swordsmanship to confuse and ambush opponents.
He obscures the path of his blade with illusions, fakes his own death, and uses invisibility for sudden surprise attacks.
His combat style is highly unconventional, leaning on trickery and deception rather than straightforward strength.
Because of this, he excels at ambushes and first encounters but struggles badly in fair, head‑on fights.
His position among the Six Arms is described as something of a pity appointment: he was chosen largely because there were no other suitable powerful candidates.
Other members often look down on him and push dirty, dangerous work onto him.
Even so, Zero, the leader of the Six Arms, does not see Succulent as entirely worthless.
When Edström suggested killing him after his capture, Zero overruled this and arranged for his release, calling Succulent “a man who is at least somewhat useful.”
At one point, Succulent disguises himself as Tuareninya "Tuare" Veyron using illusion magic while wearing a maid outfit.
Once the disguise is broken, this leads to the bizarre sight of a grim-faced man in a maid dress multiplying via illusions into several identical “maids” during battle.
Succulent has pale, almost corpse-like skin, with gaunt cheeks and sharp, predatory eyes.
His overall look evokes a scavenging bird of prey feeding on carrion, giving him a sinister and unsettling presence.
Succulent is fully aware that his abilities are built on trickery and that his raw fighting power is inferior to true front-line specialists.
Because of this, he tends to act cautiously and tries to avoid direct confrontation with obviously superior opponents.
He is sensitive to how other Six Arms members view him, as they openly treat him as the weakest link.
Nevertheless, he still takes on missions and makes an effort to prove his usefulness within Eight Fingers.
While he uses “cheap tricks,” his strategies are calculated and often brutal, with no hesitation about using feints, fake deaths, and ambushes.
His approach to combat is pragmatic and opportunistic rather than honorable or straightforward.
Succulent is a hybrid combatant who has trained in both a magic caster-type class, Illusionist, and a warrior-type class, Fencer.
He is essentially a magic warrior who uses illusion spells to support and amplify his swordplay.
In terms of pure swordsmanship, he is inferior even to Climb, a relatively low-level warrior by the world’s highest standards.
Among the Six Arms, he is explicitly regarded as the weakest in a straight fight.
His illusions can turn physical objects invisible, such as making his sword disappear from sight.
He can also create multiple insubstantial phantom images and afterimages of himself to confuse enemies.
A typical trick is to render his real sword invisible while conjuring several illusory swords attacking from various directions.
He also generates multiple clones that move independently from his real body, forcing the enemy to guess which one is genuine.
While the enemy focuses on these illusory doubles, Succulent can turn himself invisible and reposition, often moving behind the opponent.
He actively misleads foes with taunts like “Which one is the real one?” to encourage them to commit to the wrong target.
Even if his general method is seen through, he has backup traps: for example, when his real body is hit, he triggers an illusion that makes it appear he has been fatally wounded.
While the opponent relaxes, believing him defeated, he uses invisibility to launch a point-blank surprise attack.
This “fake death into ambush” tactic is a classic first-time killer strategy and extremely dangerous against foes unfamiliar with his tricks.
When he first fought Climb, he pushed him to the brink of death precisely with this kind of deceptive play.
However, all of his created images and clones are purely illusory with no physical substance.
If struck even once, these phantoms vanish instantly, functioning only as decoys and visual noise.
Experienced warriors with strong senses or combat intuition can sometimes locate Succulent’s real position by his presence or killing intent, ignoring the illusions.
His style is also structurally weak to wide-area attacks that hit everything in a region, stripping him of the ability to hide among his fake bodies.
Because his arsenal is heavily biased toward misdirection, once an opponent has good countermeasures or prior knowledge of his methods, his fighting power drops sharply.
Succulent understands this limitation well, which is why he prefers cautious engagement and avoids being forced into a straightforward duel.
Confrontation at Sebas Tian’s Residence
Within the Re-Estize Kingdom, Eight Fingers dominates the criminal underworld, and Succulent operates as part of its enforcement arm.
At one point, he works with a royal inspector named Staffan, who has been influenced by Eight Fingers.
Succulent, together with Staffan, visits the mansion of Sebas Tian to pressure him about taking Tuareninya "Tuare" Veyron away from Cocco Doll’s brothel.
In this encounter, Succulent appears in his capacity as an enforcer, using political backing and intimidation instead of open combat.
First Battle with Climb and Defeat by Brain Unglaus
Following orders from Zero, Succulent is assigned as a bodyguard to Cocco Doll.
He accompanies Cocco Doll to a brothel, where he ends up clashing with Climb.
Using his illusions and trick tactics, Succulent toys with Climb, who is inferior in level and has no prior knowledge of his abilities.
He successfully exploits this gap and drives Climb to the very verge of death.
However, before he can finish Climb off, Brain Unglaus arrives on the scene.
Compared to Climb, Brain is vastly more experienced and powerful as a warrior.
Succulent’s illusions and tricks are useless against Brain, who cuts through his deception with overwhelming skill and perception.
Succulent is defeated almost instantly, losing consciousness in a single clean strike.
After this loss, Succulent is captured.
Edström suggests that he should be killed due to his failure and low value, but Zero intervenes.
Zero judges that Succulent is, at the very least, marginally useful and has some remaining value.
He arranges the necessary procedures to have Succulent released rather than executed.
Maid Disguise, Second Battle with Climb, and Death
Later, during an Eight Fingers-related incident, Succulent takes on the appearance of Tuareninya "Tuare" Veyron using his illusion magic.
To maintain the disguise, he is forced to wear an actual maid outfit, turning him into a grim, muscular man in frills and apron.
When the disguise is exposed, he continues fighting in this maid attire.
His illusions then create multiple copies of this intimidating “maid man,” resulting in a surreal and almost comedic battlefield scene.
Around this time, Climb, along with allies, raids an Eight Fingers base to rescue Tuare and to strike at the organization.
Succulent, now newly freed by Zero’s connections, is present at the base and confronts Climb again right in front of his leader.
Succulent’s situation, however, is far from ideal.
When he was captured, all of his magic items were confiscated, leaving him without his previous gear or enchanted equipment.
By contrast, Climb now fights with stronger equipment and greater mental composure, aided by the precise support of a former adventurer and thief named Lockmeier.
Lockmeier’s assistance—such as disrupting Succulent’s positioning and reading his movements—blunts the edge of Succulent’s illusions.
Without his magic items, stuck in a maid outfit purely for the sake of disguise, and with all his tricks already known to Climb, Succulent cannot fully utilize his signature style.
His earlier advantage of surprise has completely vanished, and his usual tactics no longer unsettle his opponent.
Faced with Climb’s calm, steady fighting and tactical support from Lockmeier, Succulent grows increasingly anxious.
This rising panic causes mistakes, further eroding the effectiveness of his illusions.
In the end, Climb seizes an opening to deliver a brutal kick to Succulent’s groin, leaving him staggered and off balance.
While Succulent is reeling from the pain, Climb follows up with a decisive sword strike that cuts him down and kills him.
Comparison with the Other Six Arms
Succulent is the only member of the Six Arms who never has to directly face Sebas Tian in battle.
The other five members end up being annihilated with little to no meaningful resistance, particularly those other than Zero, who are essentially one-sidedly destroyed.
Although Succulent ultimately dies at Climb’s hands, he at least gets extended focus and a dramatic duel.
Compared with the abrupt, almost off-screen defeats suffered by the other members, Succulent can be seen as relatively fortunate in terms of narrative spotlight.
Succulent is voiced by Atsushi Imaruoka.
His performance emphasizes Succulent’s mixture of sly confidence, bitterness at his status, and growing desperation when his tricks fail.
