Character Setting

Edit

Yugi Mutou is a surviving boy of the Zi clan who lost his memories and suffered partial paralysis after drinking poison, and now lives under the loose supervision of Maomao at the pharmacy where he was taken in and renamed from Hibiku to Yugi Mutou.

Yugi Mutou is one of the few remaining members of the Zi clan, a group that has nearly been wiped out.

His survival is tied to a severe poisoning incident that left him with both physical and mental aftereffects.

After this incident, he lost his memories and became partially paralyzed on one side of his body.

Because of his clan background and the danger surrounding it, he is not completely free despite his seemingly ordinary life.

Maomao took him in at the pharmacy, officially as a helper or ward but in reality as someone to keep under watch.

During this time, his name was changed from Hibiku to Yugi Mutou, giving him a new identity separate from his past.

The poison he drank left permanent consequences.

Yugi Mutou suffers from partial paralysis in half of his body, which affects his mobility and daily actions.

He also has complete memory loss of his life before the poisoning.

This amnesia shapes his personality and relationships, since he has no recollection of his past as a Zi clan member.

Despite these serious aftereffects, he lives a relatively active life.

His physical limitations and lost memories do not stop him from pursuing drawing or trying to accompany Maomao.

Yugi Mutou currently lives and works around the pharmacy run by Maomao.

This arrangement allows Maomao and others to keep an eye on him while giving him a semblance of normal daily life.

Although he appears to be free, his position is actually delicate and controlled.

He cannot move completely as he wishes, mainly because of the political and social implications of being a Zi clan survivor.

He himself has no awareness of these restraints.

From his perspective, he is simply a boy being cared for by Maomao and occasionally scolded or guided.

Without memories of his past, Yugi Mutou behaves like a straightforward, somewhat spoiled boy.

He often acts on impulse and emotion rather than calculation or caution.

He is especially attached to Maomao and relies on her heavily.

When Maomao is about to go out, he frequently begs her to take him along, sometimes throwing small tantrums to get his way.

This dependence shows a childlike side to his personality.

He feels safe with Maomao and is comfortable enough to whine, cling, and act spoiled around her.

At the same time, his eagerness to go out hints at a desire for freedom and stimulation.

Even if he does not understand the dangers of his position, he instinctively wants to explore the world beyond the pharmacy.

Even before losing his memories, Yugi Mutou was skilled at drawing.

This natural talent remained with him despite his amnesia and physical disability.

He uses this artistic ability to earn small amounts of money.

In front of a place known as the Rokushokan, he draws quick portraits for passersby, sketching their likenesses in exchange for coins.

His work has attracted attention for its quality and expressiveness.

As a result, he has been recognized as having genuine talent rather than just a casual hobby.

Because of this talent, Yugi Mutou now studies under a famous painter.

He regularly visits this master to learn professional techniques, refine his style, and deepen his skills.

Art gives him both a livelihood and an identity beyond “survivor of the Zi clan.”

Through drawing, he expresses himself in a way that does not rely on the memories he has lost.

Yugi Mutou’s most important relationship is with Maomao.

She is his guardian, caretaker, and unofficial overseer, balancing affection with responsibility.

He clings to Maomao emotionally, often demanding her attention.

To him, she is both a dependable adult and someone he can tease and complain to without fear.

The people around him see him as both vulnerable and gifted.

They are aware of his past and latent danger, even though he himself remains oblivious.

His teacher, the renowned painter he studies under, treats him as a promising disciple.

This relationship offers him a future path based on skill rather than bloodline or politics.

Yugi Mutou represents how a person can be caught between past and present without even remembering why.

He lives under quiet surveillance, yet his daily concerns revolve around drawing, following Maomao, and earning small coins.

His amnesia allows him to be innocent of the Zi clan’s history, while his existence still carries its weight.

This contrast creates a subtle tension between the boy he is now and the legacy he unconsciously carries.

Through his artwork and his bond with Maomao, Yugi Mutou shows how new identities can form after trauma.

Even with partial paralysis and lost memories, he builds a life defined by creativity, attachment, and small but meaningful freedoms.
