In the struggle, he is bitten by one of the undead, sealing his fate.

Saeko Busujima arrives on the scene after Kazu has already been bitten.

Recognizing his condition and the inevitability of his turning, she delivers a merciful killing blow, allowing him to die peacefully before becoming one of “them” himself.

Kazu’s death underscores the brutal speed at which normal students are lost during the outbreak.
