Rokumon is a black cat spirit with striking green eyes and an unknown gender, serving as Rinne Rokudo's contract black cat in the series Rin-ne. Originally the partner of Tamako, Rokumon was dismissed and soon ended up with Rinne through Tamako's recommendation. Rokumon is visible as a cat with a boy's face to Rinne and Sakura Mamiya, but ordinary people see Rokumon as just a regular kitten. Rokumon is loyal and polite, calling Rinne and other close characters with honorifics, but also reveals a sly and wild side when food or money are involved. While intelligent and resourceful, Rokumon is also known for humorous betrayals and has a talent for transforming into a huge monster cat head in critical situations.
Rokumon takes the form of a small black cat with large green eyes. When seen by those with spiritual abilities, Rokumon appears as a cat body with a boy’s face.
For ordinary people, Rokumon simply looks like a cute black kitten.
Rokumon can also transform into a gigantic monster cat’s head, especially during moments of excitement or danger.
Rokumon is fundamentally loyal and polite, especially toward Rinne, Sakura Mamiya, Tamako, and Ichigo.
Rokumon always uses respectful honorifics (“sama”) with these characters.
Despite this, Rokumon is not above calling rivals or enemies rudely by their names without honorifics, showing a preference for respect only toward those Rokumon likes or deems worthy.
Rokumon boasts a clever, analytical mind, acting as a valuable advisor in both calm and dangerous situations.
However, Rokumon has a highly self-assured, even narcissistic side, sometimes overestimating Unknownself.
Rokumon's wild cat instincts sometimes lead to violence with very little provocation, including attempts to get Rinne’s classmates into trouble for petty reasons.
Above all, Rokumon’s biggest weaknesses are delicious food and money. Rokumon is not above betraying Rinne in return for luxury meals or cash, often leading to amusing disputes between them.
Originally Tamako’s partner as a contract black cat, Rokumon was ruthlessly fired and replaced. Afterward, through Tamako’s referral, Rokumon arrived at Rinne’s side.
Because Rinne is extremely poor and cannot pay a proper salary, Rokumon joins Rinne on the unique contract condition of “self-funded food.” Rokumon spends much time obtaining food from compassionate humans by acting as an adorable kitten—sometimes enjoying better meals in Sakura’s room than what Rinne can provide.

From Tamako to Rinne
Rokumon starts as Tamako’s black cat, but after being fired, Tamako introduces Rokumon to Rinne Rokudo, hoping Rokumon can strengthen Rinne’s connection to the afterlife.
At first, Rokumon refuses because Rinne can only pay with six coins (a paltry sum), believing Tamako's introduction to be part of some larger plan. Rokumon’s initial rejection changes after accidentally seeing the notice of termination from Tamako—sympathy and Rinne's earnestness persuade Rokumon to enter into a new contract.
Survival Tactics and Food Quests
Because Rinne cannot afford to support a familiar, Rokumon survives by acting cute and getting strangers to feed Unknownself. Rokumon often sneaks into Sakura Mamiya’s room, sometimes enjoying higher-quality meals than the main master.
Rokumon’s misadventures around food and money are a recurring source of comedy. Whenever luxury treats or cash are at stake, Rokumon sometimes betrays Rinne, even attacking or scamming Unknown own master.
Fighting and Supporting
Though physically small, Rokumon is known for unexpectedly strong displays, transforming into a massive monster-cat head to scare adversaries, fly allies, or subdue foes. Rokumon’s clever plans often save the day, although accidents caused by inexperience or over-enthusiasm frequently cost Rinne extra money or effort.
Character Growth and Two Sides
Over time, Rokumon's dual personality becomes more prominent: usually loyal but capable of gleeful betrayal. Secret savings, grumbling, and plotting against Rinne (especially over food or prizes) pop up repeatedly, only for Rokumon to return to loyalty once the excitement passes.
Rokumon is considered by everyone—both friend and foe—as Rinne’s trusty but troublesome sidekick, never far from the center of the action.
