Pakuyasa is a samurai who once dreamed of being Gintoki Sakata’s student. He looks a lot like Gintoki but is much heavier and not skilled with a sword. Because of his obsession with looking like Gintoki, others called him “Pakuyasa,” or “White Impostor.” He served as a supply officer during the war and became known for his bumbling but passionate personality. After leaving the battlefield, Pakuyasa failed in several businesses and now takes on shady jobs. His main story is told in flashbacks during the Rakuyou Decisive Battle Arc, where he has memorable encounters and is often mistaken for Gintoki by others.
Pakuyasa is large, round, and has a chubby face with a double chin.
He wears a white headband and has silver hair, which makes him look like Gintoki Sakata during the war period.
However, his plump body and distinct face set him apart as a "fat Gintoki."
Pakuyasa is overly concerned with how he looks, especially compared to Gintoki Sakata.
He is full of passion and enthusiasm but lacks real skill to match it.
People often see him as someone whose big energy turns into useless effort.
He tries very hard but ends up failing most of the time.
Pakuyasa once wanted to become Gintoki Sakata’s student before the war.
Gintoki did not like taking students and thought Pakuyasa was not made for fighting, so he made him a supply officer.
Even though Pakuyasa wanted to be more, he had no real sword talent and quickly left fighting.
He was called “Pakuyasa” by friends, meaning he was seen as a copy of the real thing.
After the war ended, he tried to sell sweets, but the business was shut down because someone sued him.
He then opened a pantyhose store but was arrested for public indecency.
Now, Pakuyasa works in “gray area” jobs.
Gintoki Sakata still knows where Pakuyasa lives or works, so they might still have some connection.
Pakuyasa looks like Gintoki Sakata, but his fighting skills are very poor.
Even Gintoki said if Pakuyasa went to battle, he would die right away.
He was mainly assigned to be the supply officer, showing he is better with support roles, not fighting.
Pakuyasa admired Gintoki Sakata and wanted to be his student.
Gintoki never took him as a student and made him buy bread instead.
He once fought the Second Division Commander of the Harusame, Bato, by accident, and Bato was deeply impressed by him in the past.
However, Bato mixed up Pakuyasa with Gintoki Sakata, thinking Pakuyasa was the real deal.
Pakuyasa also had short connections with others in the war, like Shinsuke Takasugi and Tatsuma Sakamoto.
The Burning Wish to Become Gintoki’s Student
Pakuyasa once approached Gintoki Sakata before the wars and asked to be his student.
Gintoki did not want to take students and thought Pakuyasa would not survive as a fighter.
Instead, Gintoki put him in charge of supplies and told him to buy yakisoba bread.
The Legendary Mistaken Identity
During the second Joui War, Pakuyasa was on a mission to buy food.
On the way, he met Bato, the Second Division Commander of Harusame.
Bato thought Pakuyasa was Gintoki Sakata and remembered fighting him fiercely years before.
Even though Pakuyasa hardly fought at all, he left a big impression on Bato, who confused his face with Gintoki's killing aura.
Bato waited ten years, hoping to fight him again, but never knew he had the wrong person all along.
Pakuyasa’s Life After the War
Realizing he was terrible at fighting, Pakuyasa quickly left the war.
He opened a sweet shop called “White Demon," but was sued and had to close it down.
He then tried running a pantyhose store, “White Pantyhose,” but got arrested for public indecency.
Now, Pakuyasa does shadowy jobs to get by, but Gintoki still knows his address, showing they have some contact.
- Pakuyasa’s real name is unknown.
- His nickname, “Pakuyasa,” means a fake or imitation of “Shiroyasha”—Gintoki’s legendary title.
- People often joke that he is just a fatter version of Gintoki Sakata.
"I can’t afford to lose…! Not until I deliver this bread to him…!!!"
