Hobbies and Likes: Loves alcohol, especially strong drinks like barja ale, and gets extremely lively and talkative when drunk.

Melascula is introduced as the Ten Commandment of Faith, directly under the Demon King, and one of the more calculating and composed demons.

She is revived from a long sealing thanks to Fraudrin’s schemes following the defeat of the Demon Clan in the previous Holy War.

Her usual appearance is that of a woman with long pink hair wearing a white leotard-like outfit, constantly wreathed in a black, mist-like aura.

This aura acts almost like extra limbs, which she can extend and shape to attack or defend, forming barriers or tendrils around her.

Although she often appears calm, analytical, and even advisory toward other demons such as Zeldris and Galland, she has a huge weakness for alcohol.

When drunk, she loses much of her cool demeanor, becoming hyper and loud, and will happily join in rowdy drinking parties.

Melascula’s true nature is not that of a naturally born humanoid demon.

She is actually a venomous serpent that survived three hundred years in the Demon Realm while constantly bathed in deadly miasma, eventually gaining magic and evolving into her current form.

Because of her origin, she has a “true form” as a gigantic poisonous snake.

She personally dislikes that form because she considers it ugly and prefers to remain in her human-like appearance whenever possible.

Physically, she is not focused on raw hand-to-hand combat power compared to other demons.

Most of her threat comes from her terrifying magic: manipulating souls, reviving the dead, and weaponizing hatred and negative emotions.

Melascula is generally calm, collected, and observant, showing a level of rationality that stands out even among the Ten Commandments.

She often tries to rein in the more reckless members such as Galland, and she gives strategic advice to Zeldris when needed.

At the same time, she has an arrogant and cruel side, enjoying experiments and games with souls and the undead.

She likes to watch how revived people struggle with their amplified grudges and unresolved regrets.

Her love of alcohol is a charming and almost comedic contrast to her otherwise cold demeanor.

At one point, she becomes so engrossed in drinking barja ale with Galland in Escanor’s tavern that she passes out drunk, completely forgetting the original mission.

She shows a certain twisted sense of fairness and curiosity, occasionally sparing someone if they entertain or intrigue her.

For instance, she blurts out that she might let Escanor live simply because he served them good ale.

Melascula is a mid-to-long range fighter whose combat style revolves around soul manipulation, curses, and negative energy.

She rarely engages in simple physical fights, instead turning the battlefield into a spiritual and psychological hell.

Her power level grows dramatically from 2,500 to 34,000 once her true potential and magic are fully active.

Despite this jump, her physical strength value remains low, emphasizing how magic-focused she is.

She can manipulate the black miasma around her body as a semi-solid substance.

This miasma can be shaped into tentacles, shields, or cocoons, and can even ignore certain kinds of demonic hellfire.

Her ability to extract, consume, and control souls makes her extremely dangerous even for powerful opponents.

Victims must protect not just their bodies, but also their very essence from being pulled out and devoured.

Transformation: Giant Serpent Form

Melascula possesses an ability that allows her to revert to her original nature as a massive demon serpent.

This “giant snake return” is essentially her true form, though she dislikes using it because she considers it unattractive.

In this form, her physical scale and toxicity skyrocket, making her much more threatening in close quarters.

She can release acids and poisons that are devastating both on contact and as fumes.

Deadly Poison

In her giant snake form, Melascula can unleash a special technique often described as spreading deadly venom and corrosive fluids.

She spews powerful stomach acid and digestive fluid that melts almost anything it touches.

The vapor rising from these fluids is a toxic gas.

Approaching her in this form is dangerous, as even getting close can lead to severe corrosion and poisoning.

Core Soul Magic

Melascula specializes in magic that targets the soul, death, and negative emotions.

Many of her spells combine these themes to create horrifying lingering effects.

Hell Gate

Hell Gate is a soul-based magic with limited on-page explanation but several implied functions.

Through this power, she is believed to manipulate souls and possibly open short-range spatial passages, giving her teleportation-like movement.

The technique is also associated with creating special spiritual spaces.

These spaces serve as conduits where she can trap, move, or process souls.

Dark Cocoon

Dark Cocoon is a spell where Melascula wraps the target in a sphere of black darkness.

Inside this cocoon, she extracts the target’s soul, isolating them from their body.

Within the black sphere, the target’s consciousness can manifest as an image or form shaped by their thoughts.

In addition, this cocoon can nullify demonic hellfire, giving her an advantage against certain demon abilities.

Law of Resentful Reincarnation

The Law of Resentful Reincarnation is a forbidden resurrection spell that amplifies the lingering regrets and grudges of the dead.

By feeding these negative emotions, Melascula forcibly drags the dead back into the world as beings hardened by hatred.

Those resurrected by this magic retain their magical abilities from life and even gain enhanced physical capabilities.

However, their anger and resentment are artificially magnified, and resisting these feelings causes them to rapidly weaken.

If the revived individual lets go of their resentment or resolves their lingering regrets, their borrowed existence collapses.

They then ascend or pass on, their temporary resurrection ending as their unfinished business disappears.

This technique becomes particularly dramatic when used on important individuals from the past.

Some revived characters struggle between their own will and the rage Melascula has layered onto them, creating emotional conflicts on the battlefield.

Resentment of the Asura

Resentment of the Asura is an enhancement technique tied to the Law of Resentful Reincarnation.

It channels the negative energy collected within the Dark Cocoon into the revived spirits, powering them up further.

The more negative energy she pours into a given spirit, the stronger and more frenzied it becomes.

However, there is a limit: if she overloads them with this energy, their bodies cannot endure it and violently burst apart.

This gives Melascula fine control over how far she wants to push her undead pawns.

She can either optimize them as durable fighters or turn them into unstable living bombs of hatred.

Summoning Circle

Summoning Circle is a spell Melascula uses to call demon clan soldiers into the world.

With this magic, she can summon red and gray demons and send them to harvest human souls in villages and towns.

These summoned demons act as her collectors and shock troops.

It is unknown whether this spell can summon non-demon beings or objects, but it is primarily shown used for demon reinforcements.

Soul Summoning

Soul Summoning is a spell where Melascula intones a complex, unspoken-style incantation and extracts the target’s soul from their body.

Once the soul is separated, she can manipulate or consume it.

The soul itself appears as a visible, tangible essence that can be held or bitten.

This power is similar in concept to the general soul-extraction abilities of the Demon Clan but is more refined and ritualistic in her case.

Chaos Melascula: Enhanced Magic

Later in the story’s sequel, Melascula is reborn as Chaos Melascula, an agent of the primordial power known as Chaos.

In this state, her original techniques are powered up with chaotic energy and gain new properties.

Dark Prison of the Underworld

Dark Prison of the Underworld is an upgraded version of Dark Cocoon infused with the power of Chaos.

It acts as a stronger, more oppressive prison that more thoroughly prevents escape and interference.

Within this prison, the fusion of darkness, death, and chaos makes it extremely difficult for victims to fight back.

It can restrain even powerful combatants by crushing their mental and spiritual resistance.

Gluttonous Spirit God

Gluttonous Spirit God is a terrifying manifestation made from a mass of souls.

Melascula gathers souls from the otherworld, mixing demon and goddess souls into a single monstrous aggregate.

This entity devours the magical energy of its targets, nullifying their magic as it feeds.

Facing it is like fighting a living, hungry void that eats spells and power instead of flesh.

Banquet of the Underworld

Banquet of the Underworld is a spell where countless hands of the dead erupt from the ground.

These spectral arms grab the target, restraining them and dragging them toward the realm of the dead.

The technique overwhelms opponents with sheer numbers and the horror of being torn down into the underworld.

It is both a crowd-control move and a symbolic display of Melascula’s dominion over death and the afterlife.

Melascula bears the Commandment of Faith, a curse bestowed by the Demon King.

This commandment enforces the concept of unwavering belief and punishes those who harbor doubt.

In her presence, anyone who holds “disbelief” or betrays their faith in what they deeply trust is punished.

Their eyes are burned, robbing them of sight as a direct consequence of their inner doubt.

The faith in question can be anything deeply cherished or trusted: a god, a lover, an ideal, or even oneself.

Human hearts, however, are fragile and can abandon their faith for trivial reasons, which Melascula considers a form of evil.

Her philosophy is that everyone carries some precious object of belief in their heart, and throwing it away over small setbacks is unforgivable.

When someone succumbs to such disbelief before her, the Commandment activates, burning their eyes no matter who they are or how many stand before her.

This power makes her mere presence a mental battlefield.

Opponents must not only fight her magic but also maintain absolute faith to avoid being blinded by the curse.

Origins and Past Holy War

Melascula originally lived as a venomous snake in the Demon Realm, surviving for three centuries in thick, deadly miasma.

This prolonged exposure awakened demonic magic within her, transforming her into a demon and eventually earning her a place among the Ten Commandments.

In the previous Holy War, she becomes involved with Gowther.

During that era, she is manipulated by Gowther and forced to assist in his escape, acting not entirely by her own free will.

Following the Demon Clan’s defeat, Melascula and the other Ten Commandments are sealed away for a long time.

Her existence becomes a dormant threat, locked away until later events in the story.

Revival and Early Actions

She is revived in the present timeline through the machinations of Fraudrin.

Once awakened, she resumes her role as one of the Demon King’s elite, spreading fear through soul-based magic.

One of her notable early acts is using the Law of Resentful Reincarnation to resurrect the dead.

Among her resurrected victims is Elaine, whose lingering feelings become fuel for Melascula’s cruel experiments.

Melascula appears alongside Galland to observe how the revived Elaine struggles with her amplified emotions.

This encounter leads them into direct conflict with Ban and his allies.

Encounter with Escanor

While pursuing Ban’s party, Melascula and Galland track them to a tavern run by Escanor.

They corner their targets and prepare to attack, but the atmosphere changes when alcohol enters the picture.

Galland encourages Melascula to drink barja ale served by Escanor.

Melascula, who loves alcohol, becomes completely absorbed in drinking and partying with Galland.

Her enjoyment escalates into a full-on drinking spree, and she eventually passes out drunk.

For a while, she forgets both the battle and the mission, showcasing her comedic weakness.

When dawn arrives, Escanor’s magic Sunshine awakens, and his power skyrockets.

Melascula sobers up as Escanor and Galland clash, witnessing the overwhelming strength of the lion’s sin of pride.

Seizing a moment of apparent opportunity after the clash, Melascula extracts and attempts to consume Escanor’s soul.

However, Escanor’s Sunshine burns from within his soul, incinerating her insides.

The intense heat of his power burns her body from the inside out.

She falls from a cliff, horribly charred, and her fate remains uncertain for a time.

Return at the Vaizel Great Fight Festival

Melascula later reappears at the Vaizel Great Fight Festival, now severely burned and disfigured from the inside.

Despite this, she is restored to fighting condition thanks to Gloxinia’s spell Life Drop, which heals her body.

Fueled by humiliation and a desire for revenge, she targets The Seven Deadly Sins again.

This time, she focuses on Meliodas, intent on devouring his soul to erase him completely.

As she attempts to consume Meliodas’s soul, Ban arrives to rescue his captain.

Ban violently intervenes, snapping Melascula’s neck and destroying multiple of her hearts.

Higher demons have seven hearts, but by this point Melascula has already lost one.

Ban crushes six of her hearts, leaving her in a deeply weakened and near-death state.

Gatekeeper of Camelot and Defeat

Later, Melascula appears once more as a guardian of the barrier protecting Camelot.

In this role, she acts as a gatekeeper, using her magic and serpent powers to keep intruders at bay.

She fights valiantly but ends up underestimating the evolving strength of her opponents, including The Seven Deadly Sins and their allies.

Her reliance on soul magic and curses is not enough to overcome their growth and coordination.

Elizabeth Liones eventually neutralizes Melascula’s demonic miasma.

By cleansing her of the corrupted energy, Elizabeth forces Melascula back into her original state as a simple venomous snake.

Stripped of her demonic might, Melascula loses her humanoid form and becomes just an ordinary, albeit poisonous, serpent.

Merlin then captures her in this weakened form, intending to use her as a research specimen.

Chaos Melascula and Later Activities

In the sequel series “Four Knights of the Apocalypse,” Melascula makes an unexpected comeback.

She returns as Chaos Melascula, now empowered and reshaped as a servant of the primordial force Chaos.

Alongside Galland, who is similarly reborn as Chaos Galland, she once again becomes a major threat.

The pair act as agents of Chaos, causing new waves of destruction and challenging the new generation of heroes.

In this new role, Melascula’s magic grows darker and more chaotic.

Her techniques, such as Dark Prison of the Underworld, Gluttonous Spirit God, and Banquet of the Underworld, reflect her evolution from a demon necromancer into a full-fledged apostle of chaos and death.
