Fushi is the main character of To Your Eternity, an immortal and genderfluid being that possesses the ability to mimic and recreate any object or living being that leaves a strong impression on them—whether it’s physical pain, emotions, or other forms of stimulus.
Fushi's appearance changes frequently due to their shapeshifting abilities.
Fushi's standard and most beloved form is that of a nameless young boy with golden eyes.
Depending on the situation, Fushi often switches to the forms of companions they've lost, animals like Joaan the wolf, or even inanimate objects such as stones and moss.
Each chosen form carries the physical abilities, talents, and traits of the original.
Fushi's personality evolves throughout the story—from primitive and naive, gradually developing human-like emotions and self-awareness.
Fushi is fundamentally sincere, compassionate, yet awkward, and tends to absorb the pain of those around them due to their keen senses.
Fushi is sensitive to both joy and sorrow, grows more self-reflective, and often struggles with the burden of their own abilities.
Their outlook on life and death can be hard for others to comprehend.
Fushi began as a featureless orb, created and sent to Earth by the mysterious Beholder to record the world.
Initial forms were inanimate—first a rock, then moss, then a dying wolf named Joaan.
Gaining self-awareness after taking on Joaan’s shape, Fushi then copied the form of Joaan's human companion—the boy—gradually building a sense of identity and memory through many encounters.
Fushi can perfectly mimic any object, animal, or person that deeply impresses them or dies near them.
They can rapidly shift between previously acquired forms at will, using different “vessels” for combat, problem-solving, or emotional reasons.
Fushi possesses limitless regeneration; even after fatal injury, their body reconstructs itself, making them truly immortal.
Fushi can also generate limitless replicas of known objects, such as weapons, food, or prosthetics, directly from their body.
When it comes to living beings, Fushi usually can only create dead bodies, unless Fushi saw them alive and their soul remains in the world—then Fushi can bring them fully back to life.
Fushi also experiences the physical pain of those nearby, enabling them to detect injuries or distress in both humans and animals.
Fushi’s journey is defined by encounters with various people and creatures.
Notable companions include March, Parona, Pioran, Gugu, Tonari, and Bonchien Nicoli la Tasty Peach Uralis.
Fushi forms deep bonds, treats everyone with emotional honesty, and bears the pain of losing those they love.
Fushi's connections fuel their evolving sense of self and humanity.
Fushi’s name means “immortal,” a reference to their undying nature.
Their eyes are always golden when transformed into another person.
Fushi’s speech and mannerisms change depending on whose form they assume.
Their earliest pronoun for themselves was “I,” but as their personality develops, it changes to “me.”
The mimicry is so perfect that Fushi can even recreate physical skills and reflexes of those they've become.
"Your pain is my pain."
"I don’t want to forget anyone. I want to remember and carry everyone with me."
"Even if I die, I can come back. I have to keep going for those who can’t."
Origin as the Orb
Fushi begins as an emotionless sphere sent by the Beholder to Earth, capable only of mimicking the first stimuli they encounter—a stone and then moss.
Awakening with Joaan and the Boy
Fushi becomes a wolf, Joaan, whose body Fushi takes on after Joaan dies from starvation.
Soon after, Fushi meets and then mimics the form of Joaan’s human companion, "the boy," which becomes Fushi’s default appearance.
From here, Fushi experiences life, loss, and the blossoming of consciousness.
Gaining Humanity through Companions
Through traveling, Fushi meets many people: the motherly March, the protective Parona, the nurturing Pioran, the passionate Gugu, the resilient Tonari, and the eccentric Bonchien Nicoli la Tasty Peach Uralis.
Their deaths leave deep marks on Fushi, each providing new forms, new feelings, and lessons about mortality and meaning.
Understanding Abilities and Growth
Fushi learns to manifest not only forms but also objects—anything important they've encountered, like food or weapons.
Fushi realizes they can reconstruct the dead, but to bring someone fully back to life, Fushi must have seen them alive and their soul must linger.
One day, Fushi unintentionally revives a lord’s daughter, revealing a shocking truth about the conditions for true resurrection that only Bonchien witnesses.
Struggles, Loss, and Hope
Fushi’s immortality is a double-edged sword; while Fushi survives all harm, the pain of outliving loved ones is a persistent ache.
As Fushi faces the Nokkers, entities that threaten life and memory, Fushi uses both shapeshifting and compassion to protect others.
Fushi is voiced by Reiji Kawashima in the anime adaptation.
All forms Fushi assumes share signature golden eyes.
Fushi’s experiences and feelings reflect their unique position between observer and participant in the world of To Your Eternity.
